Iron tablets make 38 students ill
Kaithal, April 12 Those admitted were treated by doctors Dr Saluja SMO, Dr Pavnish Agarwal, Dr R.P. Goel and Dr Aman Sood after some time condition of most of them stabilised and 36 of them were discharged by 3.15 pm. Four others were still under treatment till evening. SMO, Dr Saluja said they would be discharged soon. Dr P.S.Dhawan CMO also reached to supervise the treatment. Sanjeev Verma ADC and Jagdish Sharma SDM reached the village on getting the information of the incident. According to information 140 students of Government Girls Primary School Balu were given folic acid tablets as part of government scheme this morning. One teacher also consumed the tablets. Soon number of students in the age group of 5 to 10 starting complaining of nausea, uneasiness and some of them started vomitting. As the news spread in the village, villagers reached the school. Teachers informed BDPO Pritipal Singh and the authorities at Kalayat and authorities at district headquarters Kaithal. The students were taken to civil hospital here in ambulances sent by the district Red Cross Society, an ambulance from Kalayat Hospital and official vehicle of the BDPO Kalayat. Doctors also reached the village from Kaithal for treatment of students. By 1.30 pm 31 students were admitted here and seven were admitted later. Lady teacher Darshna(30) wife of Krishan who also consumed the tablet, also fell ill and was admitted. Rajinder Kataria DC addressing a press conference expressed satisfaction over the treatment and discharge of the students. He said the sample of tablets consumed by the students were being sent to laboratory to ascertain the quality of tablets. He said the remaining stock of tablets had been sealed and he had asked ADC Sanjeev Verma to look into all aspects of the incident and submit a report. Parents of some students expressed doubt about the quality of the tablets. |
DHBVN announces 3-hour power-cuts
Hisar, April 12 A spokesman of the nigam said here today that the duration of power cuts in urban areas would not be for more than 90 minutes at one go. The total duration of all power cuts would be of 3.30 hours a day. The timings of cuts in A-2 Palwal Zone of district Faridabad will be 2 a.m to 3 a.m, 6 a.m to 6.30 a.m , 8 a.m to 9 a.m, 2.30 p.m to 4 p.m and 7 p.m to 7.30 p.m. In A-5 Palla Zone in district Faridabad, the timings of power cuts in urban areas will be from 1 a.m to 2 a.m, 5.30 a.m to 6 a.m, 9 a.m to 10.30 a.m, 4 p.m to 5 p.m and 8.30 p.m to 9 p.m. In Bhiwani district, the supply can be restricted from mid-night to 1 a.m, 7 a.m to 7.30 a.m, 11 a.m to 11.30 a.m, 4 p.m to 5 p.m and 9 p.m to 9.30 p.m. In Gurgaon Zone-I, restrictions in power supply can be from 2 a.m to 3 a.m, 5.30 a.m to 6 a.m, 9 a.m to 10.30 a.m, 3 p.m to 4 p.m and 7.30 p.m to 8 p.m. In Gurgaon Zone-II, the supply can be restricted from 1 a.m to 2 a.m, 6.30 a.m to 7 a.m, 10.30 a.m to 12 noon, 4 p.m to 5 pm and 7.30 p.m to 8 p.m. The timings of power cut in Hisar and Fatehabad districts will be 3 a.m to 4 a.m, 7 a.m, 7.30 a.m, 12 noon to 1.30 p.m, 5 p.m to 6 p.m, and 8 p.m to 8.30 p.m. In Mahendragarh and Rewari districts the timings of power cuts would be 3 a.m to 4 a.m, 7 to 7.30 a.m, 12 noon to 1.30 p.m, 5 to 6 p.m and 9 to 9.30 p.m. The timing of power cuts in Sirsa district will be from midnight to 1 a.m, 7 to 7.30 a.m, 8 to 9.30 a.m, 5 to 6 p.m and 9 to 9.30 p.m. In rural areas, the DHBVN has scheduled power supply for at least 13 hours a day, including three-phase supply for five hours a day. Three-phase supply in rural area in Group-I of Operation Circle, Gurgaon, will be given from midnight to 4 a.m, 2.30 p.m to 3.30 p.m. In Group-II of district Gurgaon, 7 a.m to 11 a.m and 4 p.m to 5 p.m, in Group-I of Hisar Circle, Three-phase supply will be given from 1 a.m to 5 a.m and 5.45 p.m to 6.45 p.m. While in group-II of Hisar, supply will be given from 6 a.m to 7 a.m and 12 noon to 4 p.m. Group-I of Narnaul Circle will get three-phase supply from 00.45 a.m to 4.45 a.m and 4.15 p.m to 5.15 p.m. While Group-II of this circle will get supply from 5.30 a.m to 6.30 a.m and from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. Group-I of Bhiwani Circle will be given three-phase supply from 00.30 a.m to 4.30 a.m and from 3.30 p.m to 4.30 p.m. Group-II of this circle will get three-phase supply from 7.00 a.m to 11 a.m and from 5 p.m to 6 p.m. Group-I Sirsa Circle will be given three-phase supply from 1 a.m to 5 a.m and from 4 p.m to 5 p.m. Group-II of this Circle will get three-phase supply from 5 a.m to 9 a.m and 5.30 p.m to 6.30 p.m. Group-I of Faridabad circle will get three-phase supply from 1.15 a.m to 5.15 a.m and from 3 p.m to 4 p.m. Group-II would get three-phase supply from 7 a.m to 11 a.m and from 5.30 p.m to 6.30 p.m. The rural area will get two-phase supply from 6 p.m to mid-night and 5.30 a.m to 7.30 a.m daily. The spokesman said the timings of peak load restrictions for industries will be 5.30 a.m to 8 a.m and 6.30 p.m to 10 p.m daily till further orders. |
CBI inspects Chautala’s property records
Sirsa, April 12 The CBI team checked the records in the office of the municipal council related to Chautala’s house in the city and educational institutes here. The officials also examined the Chautala’s account statement with the Oriental Bank of Commerce here. This is the fourth visit of the CBI to the district to enquire the assets of Chautalas. The officials also got the copies of the records from the municipal council and Patwar Bhawan while the educational institute sought time till May to provide the required details, the sources added. |
HAU farm training centre at Mandkola
Hisar, April 12 He said the centre which would cost Rs 7 crore would be funded jointly by the state government and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The centre would help develop human resources in the area, identify self employment opportunities and provide vocational training to the needy youth in the area. It would also promote diversification in agriculture in this backward area.Two agricultural scientists have been appointed. The botanical garden here was also being revamped, Dr Katyal added. —

State to get Rs 2 cr central aid for potable water
Chandigarh, April 12 Sanctioned by the ministry of rural development, the money has been given under the national rural drinking water quality monitoring and surveillance programme, sources in the Haryana government said. The first instalment is expected to be used during the year 2006-07. Out of the sanctioned grant Rs 60.50 lakh will be spent on information, education and communication activities and the remaining Rs 140.70 lakh on human resource development activities as per the guidelines under the Rajiv Gandhi national drinking water mission. The funds for undertaking these activities are to be transferred to the community and capacity development unit established in the state. On its own, Haryana will spend Rs 379 crore to improve the quality of drinking water in 1,414 villages and 26 towns of the state. This step will further help prevent water-borne diseases. |
Privatisation: Roadways workers protest
Panipat, April 12 The employees sported black badges to lodge their protest and accused the state government of promoting privatisation and harassing its employees. They demanded that new buses be included in the roadways’ fleet and colonies be carved out for its employees. The employees also alleged that the demands accepted by the government were yet to be implemented. Baldev Singh and Sarbat Punia addressed the protesters. —

DGP asks force to improve image
Karnal, April 12 He was addressing top officials, including IGs of all police ranges and all district police chiefs, here today. Dalal stressed that there was a need to be extra vigilant in the NCR region as it had witnessed an increase in the number of criminal activities. He focused on improving mutual respect among various ranks to tackle the problem of stress in the force. The DGP stated that the state police had posted the list of reported cases of vehicle thefts and road accidents on its official website www.haryanapolice.gov. Bitta told to furnish fresh bail bond Ambala, April 12 He was summoned by the court in a defamatory case filed against him by chairman of the Anti-Terrorist Front India Viresh Shandilaya. Bitta could not appear before the court today. His counsel filed an application in the court for the exemption of personal presence of his client. He informed the court that Bitta was already engaged in a national-level function being organised at Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar to pay homage to the war heroes. The court has fixed May 26 as date for the next hearing. The counsel of Shandilaya had filed an application in the court for cancelling the bail bond of Bitta. He said the bail bond was incomplete and was not in conformation with various provision of the Criminal Procedure Code. |

Spurious pesticides seized Ambala, April 12 Bharatiya Kisan Union activists had learnt that spurious pesticides were being brought to Ambala through a passenger train. A truck, on which the pesticides were loaded at the railway station, was stopped by the BKU activists near the village. A person, who was travelling in the truck, was nabbed while another escaped. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the pesticides were brought to Ambala from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh. |
