Hooda announces Rs 16-crore
railway overbridge
Charkhi Dadri (Bhiwani), January 7 Addressing a rally at the local Qila maidan here today, Mr Hooda said he had got the opportunity to serve the people of the state with the blessings of the Congress president Sonia Gandhi and support of the legislators. He said the results of the ambitious schemes which his government had implemented during the past 22 months had started yielding better results. Admiring the heroism and valour of the people of this area, he said during 1857 revolution when Nawab of Jhajjar and King Nahar Singh were executed, the brave people of Dadri had heroically tried to save the fort of Dadri. He said efforts were being made to provide better power and water facilities and law and order condition in the state. He reminded that waiving off outstanding electricity bills of Rs 600 crore was indeed a ‘difficult’ task and he could not have sleep for a single minute for two nights and two days while taking the decision as the total budget of the state was Rs 2200 crore that time. He further reminded that the then Chief Minister Devi Lal had waived off debt of Rs 26 crore during his rule. Describing about the availability of electricity, Mr Hooda said viewing the increasing demand, an additional production of 5,000 MW power would be made during the next three and a half years. Talking about the equal distribution of water, the Chief Minister said Hansi-Butana canal being constructed from Bhakra main line would cost Rs 2,600 crore and Bhiwani district would get maximum water from the additional 2,000 quesecs to be supplied after the completion of this canal. Describing the statement of INLD leaders about civil war during the construction of this canal, he reiterated "Canal will be dug come what may". Referring to steps taken to quell corruption in the state, he said the police recruitment was continuing. He said the present government had lifted ban on recruitment promulgated by the previous government. Accepting a demand made by Maj Nripender Singh, MLA and organiser of the ‘Pragati Rally’, Mr Hooda announced construction of a railway overbridge at Dhani crossing at a cost of Rs 16 crore. He said work on this bridge would start from next year and a Rs 9-crore water work would be
constructed at Kapoori Ram Nagar village. He also sanctioned setting up of an ITI institute on 15-acres at Rawaldhi village. It will have 64 units and about 1,000 students would be imparted
training in it. Earlier, MLA Nripender Singh presented a shawl to Chief Minister and other dignitaries. HPCC working president Dr Ram Prakash presided over the rally. Shergarh becomes a village
em-powered
Kaithal, January 7 While it has ensured better power supply to all "connected" houses, eliminated the menace of kundi connections and put an end to frequent breakdowns, Shergarh, touted as the show window of the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN), is now a model its neighbours want to replicate. In the past couple of months, the village landscape, too, has changed with small transformers standing tall amidst houses. Dangling wires are a thing of the past. Since the project took off in November last year, all 90 households without connections put in their applications for the same, making Shergarh one of the few villages of the state where every home has a regular power connection. Says 30-year-old Rajinder: "Smaller transformers catering to a few homes are certainly a better option than the bigger ones. Last year, our transformer got burnt four times and each time it took a week to repair the system. Till then we were forced to go without power. Ever since the new system was put into place, there's been no breakdown." Though the power supply is limited to eight to 10 hours a day, village elder Abhay Ram says: "With the new system, we get uninterrupted high-voltage supply. Earlier, even if there was power, the last connected house did not get any supply because electricity was stolen through kundis." Village sarpanch Satpal has donned a new role since the new "lighting" project rolled out. "We have people from neighbouring villages coming to Shergarh to see how the system works. We are pioneers in this field. Deol Kheri, another village, has also begun collecting money to install transformers," he explains. However, the take off was not easy with the villagers reluctant to accept the project initially. It took a lot of convincing to allow replacement of the 440 volt lines and three 100 KV transformers in the village with 11KV high voltage lines. "There was drama every other day over kundis by households with no power connection. This problem has been dealt with now. If a villager tries a kundi on the 11 KV mainline, he will end up burning all his electrical gadgets," says Panch Harikesh. Superintending Engineer SC Goyal and XEN SK Bansal are enthused with the response the project has elicited. "While the demand for connections has gone up in the village and line losses have reduced, there are many other villages who have come forward with a similar request," Mr Goyal says. Meanwhile, both distribution companies- UHBVN and DHBVN- are taking the HVDS project to villages in every electricity circle. Seka of Mahendergarh district has become the first under the DHBVN to adopt this scheme. |
Re-employed Chief Engineer removed
Karnal, January 7 Sources said in the orders passed on December 26 last retired officer S.P. Gupta was “shifted” to what is termed as lucrative post of Adviser to Chairman of Power Utilities Limited, Lt General Omkar Singh Lohchab (retd). Mr Johar has been appointed CE (Operations), Rohtak in Mr Gupta’s place. In a report on September 17 last, The Tribune had highlighted the anomaly in the appointment of Mr Gupta, known for proximity to several politicians of the ruling party. The Haryana Power Engineers Association (HPEA) had threatened to move the high court against the decision of the government. The controversial retired CE had remained posted for more than a decade at Rohtak, home district of the Chief Minister. The CE in question retired on August 31, 2006, on attaining 58 years and availed all retirement benefits. According to sources, he was been granted re-employment for one-year from September 1, 2006. In an effort to “adjust a well-connected individual”, sources said terms of conditions of working of the newly re-employed CE were not finalised at the time of his appointment, sources said. It aroused resentment among officials as it had hampered promotion process of all engineers from the SE to the junior professionals. |
