HOSHIARPUR
Inaugurated: Mr Romesh Chander Dogra, Minister for Technical Education, inaugurated the newly upgraded hospital at Bholkalota village in the Kandi area, Talwara block, on Monday. The Punjab Health Systems Corporation has recently upgraded the hospital at a cost of Re 3.5 crore. Now the 30-bed hospital has been equipped with specialised health facilities. A latest machine has been installed in the Eye Department. Eight doctors specialising in various fields have been appointed.

Conference: The fifth annual conference of the Punjab Academy of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology will be organised by the medical fraternity in association with the district police here on December 17.

Motorcyclist killed: Hardip Singh of Ahmadgarh Chhana was killed yesterday when his motorcycle was hit by a vehicle. The police has registered a case.

Booked: The Raikot police booked Swarna of Mander for stealing a purse belonging to Bishan Singh of Khurd yesterday. A case has been registered. The accused has been taken into custody.

Assaulted: The police has registered a case against Kunda Singh and Buta Singh of Talwandi Kalan for allegedly assaulting Harnek Singh of their village. An old dispute is said to be the reason behind the assault.

RCF pip Sikh regiment: Railway Coach Factory, Kapurthala, beat Sikh Regiment, Pathankot, by 1-0 in a closely contested match at the 9th state level Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh Memorial Football Tournament. The meet kicked off at Sikh National College, Banga, 2 km from here, on Tuesday. In another match Punjabi University, Patiala, defeated Football Club, Mahilpur, 3-1.

35 donate blood: The Guru Nanak Mission Medical and Education Trust, Dhahan Kaleran, organised a blood donation camp, an exhibition on AIDS and contests in poster making and declamation on female foeticide, drug abuse and environment pollution to mark the birthday of its president Budh Singh Dhahan here on Tuesday. Thirtyfive units of blood were collected.

Blood donation: The Milkfed Blood Trust in collaboration with the Rotary and Blood Bank Society organised a blood donation camp here on Tuesday.As many as 12 Markfed officials,who donated blood for over 20 times, were honoured on the occasion, according to a press note.

Lecture: As part of the 156th birthday anniversary celebrations of Bhagwan Devatma, the Dev Dharma Mission organised a lecture on Tuesday. Delivering the lecture, Dr Vinod Khera claimed that there could be no conflict between true science and true religion as both describe reality. — TNS

Pharmaceutical Expo: A team of Pharma Buzz, a national pharmaceutical monthly magazine, participated in the first edition of CPhI-India (Convention for Pharmaceutical Ingredient) organised along with the Pharmaceutical Expo — 2006 at Mumbai from December 1 to December 3.
