Library competition festival a big draw

The week-long ‘Library Related Competitions-2006’ organised by the Chandigarh Librarians’ Association (CLA) were inaugurated by Mr Krishna Mohan, Home Secretary, Chandigarh Administration, at Dev Samaj College, Sector 45, here today. Over 4500 students from various schools in and around the city are participating in the competitions.
Dr Shashi Jain, Principal, Dev Samaj College for Women, Sector 45, Chandigarh, reminded students that the principle object of their reading should be for the acquisition of useful knowledge. Mr P.V. Rao, Senior Vice-President, CLA, said the association had launched a campaign to make residents of the tri-city library-minded. “Book lovers and the association feels proud in saying that it has succeeded to a great extent,” he said. Mrs Jaspal Kaur, General Secretary, CLA, said these competitions had entered into their 14th year. She said these competitions are organised every year to spread the message not only among children and students but also to tell their parents and teachers that books are not only keys to wisdom’s treasure but they also open the gates to pleasure and entertainment. An “Open Quiz” was also organized on the occasion for parents, teachers and the general public. The programme was compered by Ms Neeza Singh, Librarian, Central State Library, who also proposed the vote of thanks.
