Haryana romp home in twenty-20 cricket

Chandigarh, November 13
Uttaranchal and Haryana moved into the quarterfinals from Pool D and Pool G, respectively, in the National Twenty-20 Cricket Championship (u-19) being played at Tau Devi Lal Cricket Stadium, Panchkula, and Sector 16 Cricket Stadium here today.

Haryana registered a 48-run victory over Saurashtra. Batting first, Haryana were bundled out on 121 in 18.5 overs. Half century by T0nku was the only saving grace of the Haryana innings. He hit seven fours during the innings.

Nadeem Shah tore apart the batting order of Haryana by claiming four wickets for 17 followed by Dhruv Raj claiming three for 26.

Chasing the target, Saurashtra collapsed on paltry 73 runs in 17.1 overs. Vansaj Rana got three wickets for 23 runs while Deepak Debas took two for 2.

In another match, Uttaranchal defeated Madhya Pradesh by 44 runs. Batting first, Uttaranchal made 187 for 6 in 20 overs.

Rajat Chawla was the highest scorer with 62 runs. The other notable contributor was Gulshan Thakral (42). Manoj and Piyush took two wickets each.

In reply, a good knock of 71 by Siddharth went waste as Madhya Pradesh could manage only 143 for 2 in 20 overs.

In another match, ITCF beat Andhra Pradesh by five wickets. Andhra Pradesh set the target of 105 runs, which was achieved by ITCF, scoring 108 for 5 in 17.2 overs. In the last match of the day, Jharkhand beat Gujarat by 94 runs.

Ryan win minithon event

Chandigarh, November 13
Hosts Ryan International School won the overall trophy in the Ryan-Milo Minithon 2006 held on the school premises on Sunday.

Over 2000 participants from various schools of Chandigarh, Ludhiana and Amritsar participated in the event, organised under three categories, including under-12, under- 14 and under-16 in the boys and girls section.

Results:

Boys U-12 (2 km) : 1 Rishang Sharma, 2 Daya Shankar, 3 Arun Kwatra.

Girls U-12 ( 2 km) : 1 Pooja, 2 Harmeet Kaur, 3 Geetan.

Girls U-14 ( 3 km) : 1 Ishneet Walia, 2 Garima, 3 Ramandeep Kaur.

Boys U - 14 ( 3 km) : 1 Avinash, 2 Supreet Singh, 3 Deldo

Boys U - 16 (4 km) : 1 Arvinder Singh, 2 Syamninder Singh, 3 Davinder Singh.

Girls U - 16 (4 km) : 1 Lovneet Saini, 2 Ramandeep Kaur, 3 Tanvir Kaur.

Naman propels Bhavan Vidyalya to victory

A fine unbeaten knock of 86 runs by Naman Prashar enabled Bhavan Vidyalya, Sector 15, Panchkula, to beat Little Flower Convent School, Panchkula, by 67 runs in the first semifinal of 5th Satluj u-14 Inter- School Cricket Tournament played at Satluj Public School, Sector 4, here today.

Batting first, Bhawan Vidyalya scored 174 runs at the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs.

Varun Kaushal and Aditya contributed valuable 33 and 22 runs, respectively.

Shubham Bharti of Bhawan Vidyalya bowled well for his team and took 4 wickets of the opponent team conceding 16 runs.

Varun Kaushal of Bhawan Vidyalya also took four wickets conceding 8 runs.

Chasing the target, Little Flower team was bundled out at 109 in 19.2 overs.

Cagers’ meet from November 16

Panchkula, November 13
The 3rd Emily Gosain Memorial Basketball tournament will be held at St Xavier's High School, Sector 20, Panchkula, from November 16, according to school Principal George S Shear.

The tournament will be played in two categories i.e. u-12 and u-17. TNS
