BODY FOUND: The body of a roadways employee was fished out of a pond near the roadways depot at Ambala City on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Kulbir, a conductor of the depot. According to roadways sources, Kulbir was a resident of Jind district and had been absent from the duty for the past several months. The body was noticed by a passer-by who then informed the police. The police sent the body to the Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The relatives of the deceased were informed.

SARPANCH DEAD: The Sarpanch of Dhulkot, near Ambala City, succumbed to his injuries in a hospital at Chandigarh on Sunday. Deep Chand had sustained injuries in an accident in Sector 9 at Ambala City a few days ago. Residents of the village alleged that he was attacked by certain persons. They met the SP, Ambala, and demanded for an inquiry into the matter.

Blood donation: A blood donation camp was organised by the Medical Branch of HQ, 2 Corps, at Blood Supply Unit, Ambala Cantonment, on Wednesday. Lt-Gen V.K. Singh, GOC, 2 Corps, inaugurated the camp in which 400 units of blood were collected. The camp was held under the guidance of the DDMS, 2 Corps, Brig Amarjit Singh. TNS

Soldier killed: A soldier, Ravinder, was killed when he was hit by an Army vehicle in a garage located in an Army unit in Ambala Cantonment on Wednesday. His body was sent to Civil Hospital, Ambala Cantonment for post-mortem. He belonged to Uttaranchal.

undertrial nabbed: An undertrial, Anil Kumar, who tried to escape from the court complex in Ambala City, was nabbed by soldier Satinder Pal  of Punjab Regiment  on Tuesday.

Elected: An election meeting of the Senior Citizens Welfare Council was held here on Wednesday in which Mr Sushil Malhotra was re-elected president of the council. Mr C.R. Nagpal was nominated vice-president, Mr K.C. Sharma general secretary, Mr B. Mukhija secretary, Mr G.S. Bhatia treasurer and Mr B.L. Suthar auditor. Mr Adishwar Jain, Mr Ajit Singh, Mr K.K. Bhatia and Mr Sardar Singh Sanghari were nominated members of the executive committee.

Competitions: A function was organised at Lord Mahavir Jain Public School, Ambala Cantonment, on Tuesday in which various competitions were held. School Principal Meenakshi Walia said Harshit, Vansh, Sarabjot, Kamolika, Gursimran, Shubham, Kajol, Divneet, Shweta, Navyug, Rajat Kumar, Ashish, Aman, Paras, Pawan and Divya won prizes.
