67 arrested for violating Railway laws

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has arrested 67 persons for offences under Railway laws, like trespassing, ticketless travel and selling eatables illegally at Jammu Railway station since Wednesday night, official sources said today.

67 arrested for violating Railway laws

Jammu, October 5
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has arrested 67 persons for offences under Railway laws, like trespassing, ticketless travel and selling eatables illegally at Jammu Railway station since Wednesday night, official sources said today.

A RPF team accompanied by Railway Magistrate, Kishore Kumar during an inspection of trains, arrested 67 persons for violation of Railway laws since last night, PTI was told.

Those arrested and fined included 20 persons for travelling without tickets, 27 for selling eatables without permission, 14 for trespassing and others for crossing the railway track illegally and illegal parking of vehicles in security zones, they said.

The arrested persons were later released, they said.

Woman delivers quadruplets

Jammu, October 5
A woman went into labour twice and gave birth to four children in a span of 19 hours in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajauri district.

Naseem Akhtar, a resident of Chajla village, went into labour and delivered a baby boy at 9.30 pm on Tuesday in Mendhar Hospital, official sources said here today.

The woman, wife of Amin, had labour pains again and was shifted to Rajauri District Hospital where she delivered three more babies at 4 pm yesterday, they said.

All babies are fine, the sources said. — PTI

Financial Adviser injured in gunbattle

Srinagar, October 5
Financial Adviser to Power Development Department, S K Sadhotra, was among seven hurt in a gunbattle outside Dashnami Akhara at Lal Chowk here today, a police spokesman said.

Mr Sadhotra, a resident of Jammu, was hit by a stray bullet during the gunbattle, the spokesman said.

Militants made an abortive bid to storm a building, where the mace of Lord Shiva is kept, by firing at a CRPF picket in the Lal Chowk, triggering a fierce gunbattle with security forces in which two policeman were killed and seven injured.

Mr Sadhotra was preparing for office when he was hit by a bullet while leaving his government accommodation near the site of the gunbattle, the spokesman said adding he was shifted to hospital where his condition was stated to be stable. — PTI

Two die in road accident

Jammu, October 5
Two persons, including an engineer of the JP industries today died in an accident in Doda district, police sources said.

Engineer S.P. Verma and Jagdish Singh, an SPO, were killed when their vehicle skidded and fell into a gorge at Khari in Banihal, sources said.

"Some people have also been injured in the mishap but details are awaited," they added. — UNI

4 die as truck overturns

Jammu, October 5
Four persons were killed today when a truck rolled down a hill on the Jammu-Srinagar road at Battery Cheshma, 150 km from here, officials said.

The victims were going in truck (JK-2A-3177) from Srinagar to Jammu when the accident occurred in the Ramban belt of Doda district at 830 a.m., they told PTI. Bodies of all victims have been recovered, they said. — PTI
