SpringDale Senior Secondary Public School organised a pool party for its kindergarten section here yesterday. Students splashed in the pool to beat the heat. Tiny tots enjoyed various games and played with toys in the pool. School founder and director Avinash Walia said such activities went a long way in consolidating the learning process of students. The Department of Languages of Guru Nanak Girls College here organised an inter-class declamation and poetical recitation competition in the seminar hall of the college yesterday. The contest was presided over by Guru Nanak Education Trust president Gurbir Singh, who gave the inaugural speech. Baljit Kaur (BSc-III), Jaspreet Kaur (MA-I Pol Sc) and Rupinder Kaur (BSc-III) bagged the first, second and third positions, respectively, in the declamation contest. Kuldeep Kaur of BSc-II was awarded a consolation prize. In the poetical recitation competition, Ravijyotika (BSc-II), Pawandeep Kaur (BSc-I) and Kuldeep Kaur (BSc-II) took the first, second and third prizes, respectively. The consolation prize was given to Samita Jaswal (BA-I). Principal Dr Charanjit Mahal congratulated the winners and awarded merit certificates and trophies. District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Jagraon, Principal Tarsem Lal Banga today monitored the ongoing 10-day teacher training programme for primary and upper primary teachers in the nine educational blocks in district. Mr Banga said training was being given under the guidelines of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Project, Punjab, Project Director Seema Jain and Director, SCERT, Punjab, Avtar Singh. The aim of the training was to bring about quality improvement, build teachers’ capacity for new teaching techniques and engineer changes in their behaviour as per the challenges of the 21st century. He said up to 50 per cent teachers would complete training during the second phase, which started on September 18. Prof Baldev Singh, Lecturer in English at the DIET, said teachers were being sensitised towards teaching students, especially girls. For the first four days, the teachers would be taught the methodology of teaching English, mathematics, science, social studies, etc. During the other six days, the resource person would teach participants regarding application of computers in education, gender sensitivity, personal hygiene, time and stress management, AIDS and environmental awareness and communication skills. The seniors of the Postgraduate Department of English of Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College hosted a function to greet their juniors at the seminar hall of the college. Freshers were entertained with jokes, skits, songs and a choreography on popular music numbers. Manjula Grover compered the function along with Jasbir and Sonam. The Department of English organised “Great Orations” at Government College for Women here today. Principal Prabhjot Kaur was the chief guest. Literary and Debating Society president Romil Preet Grewal welcomed the guest. Participants delivered famous speeches of eminent personalities from different walks of life. They came dressed up as Swami Vivekananda, Pt Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Subhas Chandra Bose, Mother Teresa and St Bernard. Prabhjot Kaur appreciated the efforts put in by the participants and urged them to follow in the footsteps of the great men. Kiranjit Brar and Manmeet adjudicated the contest. Gender sensitivity on agenda
Jagraon, September 21 Expressing satisfaction over the in-service training programmes, Mr Banga informed that this training was being conducted under the guidelines and directions of Ms Seema Jain, State Project Director, Sarva Shiksha Abyian Punjab, Chandigarh, and Mr Avtar Singh, Director, SCERT Punjab, Chandigarh. The objectives of the training were to bring qualitative improvement, train teachers for new teaching techniques and change in their behaviour as per the challenges of the 21st century. He further informed that about half the total number of teachers would complete training during the second phase, which stared on September 18. Mr Baldev Singh, lecturer-in-English and media in charge of DIET, Jagraon, said teachers were being sensitised so that they could teach students, particularly girls, with the application of educational psychology. During the first four days, the teachers would be taught the methodology of teaching English, math, science, social studies. During the next six days, the resource person would teach the participants the application of computers in education, gender sensitivity, personal hygiene, time and stress management, AIDS and environmental awareness, communications skills, to make the teaching and learning process exciting, interesting and effective. |
