Life limping back to normal in Hisar
BJP, INLD try to gain political mileage, media footage

Hisar, September 14
A heavy police posse was deployed in the city today to prevent any untoward incident in view of the bandh call given by the BJP.

The SSP, Mr Arshinder Singh Chawla, said police personnel from other four districts of the range had been called to maintain law and order. These included a considerable number of women cops.

The bandh call, given in protest against the sexual harassment of girl students by the Director of Vishwas School here, evoked a lukewarm response. BJP workers were seen arguing with shopkeepers to down their shutters in the morning.

Members of different opposition parties violated Section 144 by holding demonstrations and marching in processions.

Interestingly, the local leaders of the BJP, who had remained a mute spectator to the police lathi-charge on protesting students yesterday, today came forward to get some media footage as representatives of various news channels had assembled here.

The INLD also did not lag behind in gaining political mileage out of the situation as its workers courted arrest by violating Section 144.

A local INLD leader was even seen boarding onto a police Gypsy by himself, requesting the policemen to “let him be there for a while so that he could get some coverage”.

Students owing allegiance to the SFI also held a protest march and staged a dharna in front of the mini-secretariat. The CPM state secretary, Mr Inderjeet, demanded a comprehensive policy to tackle incidents of sexual exploitation in educational institutions.

In Hansi township, a number of girl students blocked road, raised slogans and staged a demonstration, demanding capital punishment for the accused.

However, despite all demonstrations and processions, no case of violating Section 144 of the CrPC was registered.

Eventually, the prohibitory orders imposed under Section 144 were withdrawn by the district administration in the afternoon.

The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Phateh Singh Dagar, said a meeting of parents, teachers and intellectuals had been called to discuss the situation and find a solution.

Rewari, September 14
The Chief Minister, Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda, today inaugurated a Rs 15 crore flyover on the Rewari-Narnaul road.

Addressing a public meeting at the Naiwali chowk near the flyover, the Chief Minister asserted that during the brief span of one- and- half years of his regime, the Rewari region had received huge funds for development works which it had not got in the past over four decades.

Reiterating his government’s resolve for the equitable distribution of canal water the Chief Minister announced that as soon as the Rs 260 crore Hansi-Butana link canal was accomplished the region would have its legitimate share of the canal water.

The state government had also decided to construct another link canal at a cost of Rs 200 crore which would carry 500 cusecs of water from the Western Yamuna canal to the Gurgaon region, he added.

Making mention of the current shortage of power in the state he said there was a gap of 5,000 MW between the demand and supply in the state. Reiterating that the state government was making serious efforts to generate an additional 5,000 MW in the coming over three years, he said after that even villages would be getting power supply for atleast 20 hour daily.
