Farmers to begin stir from today

In view of the forthcoming session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, various organisations of farmers in the state shall start an agitation at the Matka Chowk in Chandigarh from tomorrow. The Vidhan Sabha session begins on September 14.
Rs 40 cr for rail link between Goindwal Sahib, Tarn Taran

The Union Railway Ministry has sanctioned Rs 40 crore for laying the rail track between Goindwal Sahib and Tarn Taran. The work on laying the track is expected to start in the last week of October.

Setback to Nabha MC chief

The President of the local Municipal Council, Mr Pawan Garg, has got a jolt after a brief relief from the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Two days ago the court stayed the proceedings of the meeting having the agenda of no-confidence motion against him. But, today all 14 councillors expressed their loyalty towards local MLA Randip Singh, who is a respondent in the case filed by Mr Garg. Mr Parmod, senior vice-president of the MC, said all 14 councillors had decided to support the MLA .
Improvement Trust registers record income

Amritsar Improvement Trust has registered a record income, which shot up by 140 per cent during the last two years. The income of the trust that earlier stood at Rs 2313.41 lakh had swelled to Rs 5542.23 lakh.
