Congress leaders allege police harassment

Tension grips village over construction

Janmashtami celebrated with enthusiasm
Mandi Ahmedgarh, August 16
The festival of Janamashtami was celebrated with great fervour at local town and the surrounding villages. Though the organisers had illuminated the temples for past two days, formal celebrations started with ‘parbhat pheris’ today morning.
A large number of devotees, reciting bhajans and shlokas, walked through the streets early in the morning. Various religious and social organisations arranged tea and snacks for the devotees during “parbhat pheri”. Ladies performed kirtan at a majority of temples.

Celebrations turn sour as Tricolour loses colour

Independence Day celebrations of a family turned sour yesterday when a new flag they had bought from a shop in Ghumar Mandi got
discoloured a few hours after the celebration. Mr Anubhav Maheshwari , a class- 8 student in Sacred Heart Convent School, told Ludhiana Tribune that he along with other children of neighbhouring houses in Gurdev Nagar were shocked at the disrespect shown to the flag by the shopkeeper or the manufacturer.

Pensioners celebrate I-Day

Punjab and Central Government pensioners celebrated Independence Day with great joy at Mini Secretariat here yesterday. About 200 pensioners gathered at the function. Mr B.R. Kaushal, chairman, Pensioner Information Centre, presided over the function and Mr HS Kahlon proposed a vote of thanks.
