BATALA
One arrested with smack
: The police on Tuesday arrested Swarn Singh, alias Atma Singh, a resident of Kahlwan village, with 100 gms of smack, according to the SSP, Mr LK Yadav. A case has been registered against the accused under Section 21 of the NDPS Act.

I-Day celebrated: Fruit and sweets were distributed among the inmates of the Adarsh Kusht Ashram by the Lions Club to mark the 60th Independence Day on Tuesday.

Bogie derails: Traffic was blocked on the Ambala -Bathinda section for two hours as a bogie of the Sri Ganganagar bound train derailed on Tuesday.

Jail reform
: The general secretary of the DCC, Mr Rajnish Tandon, Mr Umesh Jain, Mr Yashpal, Mr Kehar Singh, Mr Jagdish Singh Randhawa, Mr Malkit Singh, Mr Gurminder Singh, Dr Ranjit Singh and Mr Raman Khullar have been appointed as members of the Jail Reform Committee.

Tricolour unfurled
: The Minister for Social Security and Welfare of SC/BCs, Mr Mohinder Singh Kay Pee, visited Khatkar Kalan, the native village of Shaheed Bhagat Singh on Tuesday. Later ,he unfurled the national flag at the Independence Day function at ITI grounds.

Blood donation camp: A blood donation camp was organised by the Lions Club and the Blood Donors Council to mark the Independence Day at the BDC Complex on Tuesday. The camp was inaugurated by former district governor of the club, Mr Shiv Sekhri.

Police stops protest: The members of the Unemployed B.Ed Teachers Union were stopped from taking out a protest march by the police and were taken to the police station on Tuesday. The teachers were demanding filling of 60,000 vacant posts of teachers on a regular basis by the government.

Office-bearers: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Punjab State Unemployed Pharmacist Association: president – Mr Nachhatar Pal Singh; general secretary—Mr Sonu Sapru and finance secretary—Mr Gurcharan Singh Sandhu.

Five injured
: At least five labourers, including two women, were injured when the roof of a private school collapsed in Bahadurgarh on Tuesday. The labourers were engaged in the construction work.

Honoured
: The Citizens Welfare Forum honoured Mr Justice J.M. Malik of the Delhi High Court here on Monday. He was honoured by the forum president, Mr Satish Seth, and others. Mr H.S. Bhangoo, District and Sessions Judge, Kaithal, Mr Subhash Goel, ADJ, Mr Surya Partap Singh, CJM, advocates and representatives of various social and voluntary organizations were present.

Function: The installation function of the Lions Club (Central) was held here on Monday. Mr Sudeep Malik was installed president by Mr J.P. Singh, a former district governor. Mr Vinod Khanna, international director, Lions International, was the chief guest. On this occasion, club officials distributed books, artificial limbs, hearing aids and uniforms among students.

Body found
: The decomposed body of Manoj Aggarwal (27), a resident of Kishanpura locality, was found in Sector 25 here on Tuesday night. Manoj, a trader, had been missing since August 8 when he left for collecting money from his clients.

Rohtak
Singer killed
: Sunil Dujania, a popular folk singer, was killed in a road accident on Tuesday night. He was on his way here when his vehicle skidded near Kharkara village, killing him on the spot.
