Property drew Malaysian fugitive to city
Chandigarh, August 12
It was the ancestral property worth crores of rupees in Malaysia and India, which brought the Malaysian fugitive, Balbir Kaur, to Chandigarh in the third week of March last.
The former Malaysian magistrate, who had jumped bail in October 1987 to escape
being prosecuted for corruption, remained in the city for few days to appoint a
General Power of Attorney holder for her properties.

Estate Office under RTI scanner soon

The Estate Office of the Chandigarh Administration will be soon be under the scanner of the Right to Information Act for failing to provide necessary information on certain questions posed by a forum “in public interest”.

Jan sampark centres to have new facilities

Daily stock availability of different blood groups for patient care at Government Medical College and Hospital will be available at the jan sampark centres. The system has been connected to the hospital blood bank and awaits a formal click to be launched as a part of the jan sampark centres in the city very shortly.
Debate on significance of ration card held

Stamped with “Not valid for identification purpose”, the ration card has lost its significance for the urban residents. This formed the thrust of the debate at a meeting of representatives of residents welfare associations held here today.

Health Dept’s vehicle gheraoed

Just a day after residents of Nada village attacked a PUDA team that had gone to the village to carry out demolitions, milk vendors today gheraoed a vehicle of the Department of Health, wrongly thinking that the staff had come to the village to take milk samples for testing.
Electric clothing for Armymen soon

Armymen posted at high-altitude sectors like Siachen, Drass etc are all set to get electric clothing
especially designed for them by a Coimbatore-based technical institution.
Scientists of the PGS College of Technology, led by Dr Murugan of the Textile
Technology Department, have successfully designed and manufactured these
electric sweaters which will be supplied to soldiers only.
Police officers’ training concludes

Cyber security centre for UT

Chandigarh will shortly have a cyber security laboratory and cyber security research centre.
A recommendation to this regard has been made by a committee comprising senior
officers from Punjab, Haryana and UT.
