Students honoured
: The commerce department of Mata Gujri College, Fatehgarh Sahib, organised a function on Wednesday to facilitate students of M.Com. Dr Gurmohan Singh Walia, Principal, congratulated the teachers and the students for bringing laurels to the institute. Paramjit Kaur, Sapna Chug and Shaminder Kaur secured 76.5 per cent, 75 per cent and 74 per cent marks, respectively.

Lecture: Dr A.K. Vashisht of University Business School. Panjab University, Chandigarh, addressed students and faculty of MBA and M.Com at Mata Gujri College, here on Friday.

Eye donation
: A lecture on the benefits of eye donation was held at PKR Jain Public School, here on Thursday. Dr Sujata Dwivedi from Rameshwar Hospital, Chandigarh, delivered the lecture.

FATEHABAD
Booked
: The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mr Mewa Singh, remanded Kanungo, Dharampal, of the Revenue Department, to judicial custody on Friday. The accused was arrested on Thursday for accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a sarpanch for the demarcation of land belonging to Jakhandadi village panchayat.

Seminar
: Agriculture experts briefed farmers on the plantation of cotton and guava, at a seminar organised by the Market Committee at  the Agri-Business Information Centre, on  Friday.

PANIPAT
5 cops suspended
: The Superintendent of Police, Mr Alok Mittal, has suspended five police officials, including two assistant sub-inspectors, two head constables, and the Sadar SHO, Ashok Kumar, for illegally selling petroleum products in the possession of the police, to the roadside dhabas of Razapur village. 

REWARI
4 imprisoned
: The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mr Baljeet Singh, on Saturday sentenced railway employees; former Inspector of Works—Mahesh Kinger, Anpat Ram, Ram Kishan both railway employees and Nav Rattan Singh, a railway contractor, to rigorous imprisonment for one year each in a case of bungling of 300 bags of cement of the railway department in August, 1995.

YAMUNANAGAR
Suicide
: Punu Lal, 50, of Radour, working in a college, committed suicide by consuming poison on Friday. The police has booked a lecturer and a class IV employee of the college for abetment to suicide, on the basis of two suicide notes.

BILASPUR
Poor water supply rued
: A deputation of as many as 24 villages of the area, led by Mr Roop Lal Thakur, president, Seedha Gram Panchayat, met Mr Maneesh Garg, Deputy Commissioner, here on Friday and presented him a memorandum regarding poor supply of water in the area. The villagers allege that the supply have been affected due to some political considerations and warn that they would be forced to launch an agitation if supply is not restored.

Discrimination alleged: BJP leader Randhir Sharma of Kot-Kehloor constituency has alleged that state Forests Minister Ram Lal Thakur, who represents the constituency as an MLA, has failed to protect the interests of the people of the area. Addressing mediapersons at Circuit House here on Friday, Mr Sharma said the state government had backed from the promise of setting up a cement unit at Bilaspur, which was a clear case of neglect of the interest of the people of the district.

Landslides due to rains
: Uprooting of trees and landslide due to heavy rain blocked traffic at Nainpukhar, Daliara and Dadaseba road for hours. 

Students’ boycott: The students of the MCM DAV College boycotted classes on Friday, and held a protest rally organised by the Students Federation of India, against the hike in fee by the management and the deterioration of facilities for students in the college. 

NURPUR
Four booked for dowry
: The police on Friday, arrested Chaman lal, father-in-law, Poonam, mother-in-law, Sunaina , sister-in-law, and Kamla , grandmother-in-law , under Sections 498, 506, and 34 of the IPC, on the basis of a complaint by Shalima, on Thursday, of harassment for dowry by her in-laws family.

Challan for illegal mining: Five JCB machines were challaned under the Mining Act and a penalty of Rs 5,000 each was imposed for engaging in illegal quarrying of the river bed, during a raid conducted by the SDM in Chakki river at Mazra, on Thursday.
