In a populist move, the Chandigarh Administration is all set to exempt hundreds of unauthorised structures outside the ‘lal dora’ of 12 villages of Chandigarh from the domain of the Periphery Act.

New directions issued on Senior Citizens Savings Scheme

The Ministry of Finance has now issued directions that senior citizens, who are Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) cardholders, cannot invest in the Senior Citizens Saving Scheme, 2004, even if they are income tax assessees in India.

Panel to take up Mahajan’s plea on plot conversion

The application for the conversion of plot No. 115, Industrial Area, submitted by BJP local unit president Yash Pal Mahajan has neither been accepted nor rejected by the Chandigarh Administration.

The body of a 70-year-old unidentified woman beggar was found at a bus stop in Industrial Area here this afternoon. The police ruled out the possibility of foul play terming it to be a case of natural death.
