Himachal Cricket Club register win

Chandigarh, July 30
A fine 77-run third-wicket partnership shared by Ravinder Nain (40 not out) and A.P. Singh (37) enabled Himachal Cricket Club (HCC) to register victory over Minerva Cricket Academy (MCA) by eight wickets in the opening Group A match of the Tri-City Twenty20 Cricket Tournament at the Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex, Sector 3, here today.

Batted first, the MCA could pile up meager 100 for 9 in 20 overs. The main wrecker for the HCC’s was Gurvinder Saini, who claimed three wickets for just 18 runs followed by K Walia (2 for 14) and Vinod Binta (2 for 24).

Only Karan Kherwal showed some resistance and made unbeaten 28 runs. The HCC achieved the target by scoring 103 for 2 in 15.3 overs. The key role was played by AP Singh (37) and Ravinder Nain (40 not out). They contributed 77 runs for the third wicket to race their team to triumph.

Brief scores: MCA: 100 for 9 in 20 overs (Sumit Dhiman 18, Karan Kherwal 28 not out, Vikramjit Malik 11, Gurvinder Saini 3 for 18, K Walia 2 for 14, Vinod Binta 2 for 24).

HCC: 103 for 2 in 15.3 overs (AP Singh 37, Pawan 12, Ravinder Nain 40 n o, Ishan Malhotra 1 for 12, Vikramjit Malik 1 for 14).

In another match of Group B, Anoop Cricket Club (ACC) defeated Gurfateh Cricket Club (GCC) by 69 runs. Anil Azad (55) and Harish Garg (46) displayed good batting and helped their team ACC to accumulate 166 for 4 in 20 overs. Ratanjit of the GCC took two wickets for 25 runs.

Chasing the target, the GCC were bundled out on just 97 for 8 in 20 overs. Baljit Singh was the main scorer with his 29-run knock. Gurdeep Rana (4 for 6) and Radhey (2 for 15) restricted the GCC to 97 for 8.

Brief scores: ACC: 166 for 4 in 20 overs (Dharamveer 12, Harish Garg 46, Anil Azad 55, Gourav 21 n.o., Ratanjit 2 for 25, Ramesh 1 for 34, Sanjay 1 for 28).

GCC: 97 for 8 in 20 overs (Baljit Singh 29, Gurdeep 18, Sanjay 8, Gurdeep Singh 7, Gurdeep Rana 4 for 6, Radhey 2 for 15).

In the last match of the day between JJ's XI and Bedi Cricket Club (BCC) of Group B, the former won the match by five wickets.

BCC made 113 for 8 in 20 overs. Ajay Disodia (25), Kesh Purag (22) and Varu (17) were their main scorers. Kulwinder Romy bagged two for 11.

In reply, Monu Khera (38) and Tej Gobind (23) guided their team to achieve the target in just 16.4 overs. JJ's scored 118 for five. For the BCC, Sandeep Sandhu got two wickets while conceding 14 runs.

Brief scores: BCC 113 for 8 in 20 overs (Ajay Disodia 25, Kesh Purag 22, Varu 17, Kulwinder Romy 2 for 11).

JJ's XI: 118 for 5 in 16.4 overs (Monu Khera 39, Tej Gobind 23, Kulwinder Romy 18, Sandeep Sandhu 2 for 14).

The tournament is being organised by the Chandigarh Twenty20 Cricket Association.

GMHS-42 beat DAV in hockey

Government Model High School , Sector 42, beat D.A.V. Sr. Sec. School, Sector 8 by 2-1 in the final of under 15 boys inter-school pre-Nehru hockey match. The scorers for Govt. Model High School, Sector 42 were Gagandeep 1 goal and Vikramjit 1 goal. On the other hand, the solo goal for D.A.V. Sr. Sec. School was scored by Gagandeep during the 20th minute.

Meanwhile, Vivek High School, Sector 38, beat St. Xaviers, Sector 44, Chandigarh, by 4-3 via tie breaker while the final score at the end of stipulated time was 1-1 during the pre-Subroto Mukherjee football tournament (u-17), played at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 37 grounds here, today. Nishant opened the account for St. Xaviers at the 11th minute and in reply Sarnash Chopra got the equalizer for Vivek High School in 46th minute of the game. In tie breaker goal scorers for Vivek High School was Gobind, Ritik, and Lakshay and for St. Xavier 44, Vishek and Shakia scored the goals.

In the second match, a hat trick scored by Ravi enabled St. John, Sector 26, to beat Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector 19, Chandigarh in a one-sided affair match 6-0. The main scorers for the winners were Ravi who scored hatrick. Parkash scored 2 goals and Rajat scored 1 goal.

Anmol, Rishu u-19 chess champs

Anmol, Rishu, Gitin and Arunima emerged champions in their respective categories in the U-19 and U-11 Chess Championship for Boys and Girls, which concluded at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Sector 25, today.

Anmol Razdan, Satbir Singh, Jaskaran and Ameek Malhotra in under-19 boys; Rishu, Ravneet, Shweta and Megha in under-19 girls; Gitin Oberoi and Anmol Kuthalia in under-11 boys and Arunima and Simranjit in under-11 girls categories were selected to represent Chandigarh for the forthcoming national championship.

School Principal C.M. Sharma distributed certificates and trophies to winners.

Points position in U-19 boys category: 5 points: Anmol Razdan; 4 points: Satbir Singh, Jaskaran, Ameek Malhotra; 3.5 points: Karan, Simranjeet, Jagteshwar Singh; 3 points: Ankush Verma, Anubhav Pasrija, Sulaksh Sharma, Karansher, Vishal Singh; 2.5 points: Prateek Munjal, Shirish, Vikram Hooda; 2 points: Harpreet, Daksh, Harsimar Singh, Monu, Vishal Basil, Gurnoor; 1.5 points: Sunny Kumar, Ravi; 1 point: Raghav Jha, Gaganpreet Singh, Pankaj Yadav, Madhav Jha.

U-19 girls: 3 points: Rishu Rathi, 2 points: Ravneet, Shweta, Megha, 1 point: Priyanka Maheshwari, Mahak Garg.

Cricket body selects under-19 probables

The probables for u-19 state team have been selected by the selection committee (Junior) of the Punjab Cricket Association at PCA stadium, here, today.

According to Mr M.P. Pandove, Honorary Secretary, PCA, these probables will undergo a coaching cum practice camp at PCA Stadium from August 2 to 11 under the able guidance of Mr. D.P.Azad, Bharti Viz,Arun Bedi, Krishan Mohan and Manmohan Bedi. Dr T.Pawan Kumar and Mr Kailash Chander. The final probables will be selected after watching their performance in this camp.

Satluj scores victory

A fine batting by Manan Vohra (57) and Gurprabhjot Singh (51 n.o.) enabled Satluj Public School team to beat BN Public School, Sector 12, Panchkula, by 30 runs in u-14, Inter district cricket tournament played at Satluj Public School, Sector 4, here, today.

Equally contributors in the win were Harpreet Singh who took four wickets at the cost of 16 runs and Sajit Nagrath took three conceding 20 runs.

Brief scores: Satluj: 147/2 in 20 overs, Manan Vohra 57, Gurprabhjot 51 n.o. BN: 118/9 in 20 overs, Ankush 35, Nitin 25, Harpreet 4/16, Sajit 3/20.
