Khaira takes on Bibi, flexes muscles in Begowal Kapurthala, July 25 Mr Khaira, a Congress leader, contested two Assembly elections against SAD leader Bibi Jagir Kaur in 1997 and 2002 from the Bholath constituency. But he is yet to register a victory. This time he is trying his best to make an entry into the Punjab Assembly. Punjab’s PWD Minister, Mr Partap Singh Bajwa, also addressed the gathering, that had congregated at a marriage palace in Begowal. He expressed hope that he would be able to win in the forthcoming elections. Mr Bajwa said the Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh, had asked him in the morning to announce publicly that Mr Khaira would be a Congress candidate in the forthcoming elections. The public gathering turned into an election rally as all speakers in their speech appealed to the participants to vote and support Congress in the forthcoming elections. Some SAD supporters also were seen joining the Congress in the public gathering. Most of the speakers criticised local MLA Bibi Jagir Kaur for “ignoring” the development of Bholath and lauded Mr Khaira’s role in the overall development of the constituency. Mr Khaira alleged that Bibi Jagir Kaur had recently travelled abroad to collect election fund in the name of a dera belonging to the Lubana community. Punjab’s Social Welfare Minister of State, Ms Gurkanwal Kaur, and the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Inderjit Singh Basarke also expressed their views. Earlier, Mr Bajwa inaugurated a bridge at Bholath. The bridge has been constructed at a cost of Rs 3 crore. The minister also laid the foundation stones of three roads— from Bholath to Begowal, Nadala to Dhilwan and Bholath to Bhogpur. The roads will be laid at the cost of Rs 10 crore by November 30. |
RCF co-op polls soon, assures DC Kapurthala, July 25 He said the SDM was to submit his inquiry report today but he could not do so due to some unavoidable reasons. Earlier the elections were scheduled on July 21, but it had to be cancelled, as voter slips could not be distributed as per programme on July 19. At that time, five unions, active in the Rail Coach Factory (RCF) alleged that some local leaders of Congress party had been trying to scuttle the election process. Actually neither of the two returning officers (ROs) appointed to hold the elections reached Sahibzada Ajit Singh Institute (Workers’ Club) in the factory premises on July 19 to issue voter slips to over 4000 members of the society. Mr Sarabjeet Singh, zonal president of the Technical Employees Union, one of the five unions, alleged that they had not reached there at the behest of any Congress leader. as the sixth union active in RCF— RCF Mazdoor Union— close to INTUC, a frontal organisation of the Congress, was not in a position to win the elections. |
‘Pension cases can be disposed off in 15 days’ Nawanshahr, July 25 Mr Onkar Nath, Accountant General (A&E), Punjab and Chandigarh, along with his team of Deputy Accountant General, Mr A.S. Kohkhar, three senior accounts officers, four Assistant Accounts Officers and four officials from the pension wing attended pending pension cases for spot settlement. Addressing the gathering, Mr Nath said the pension cases, if complete in all respects, could be disposed of within 10 to 15 days by his office. For redressal of personal grievances, he said that the Grievances Redressal Cell had been set up in his office where the pensioners could lodge their complaints. He said the pensioners could also know about the position of their pension case from a web portal that was functional after March 31 this year. The officials also distributed copes of a booklet, “Model guidelines for preparation of pension cases” prepared by the department. Meanwhile, officials from 163 pension-sanctioning departments attended the adalat. The officers attended 20 complaints, 15 “not-submitted” complaints, 10 cases for revision of pension and five returned cases. Besides, 60 verbal queries relating to pay fixation, upkeep of service books and preparation of pension and family pension papers were also attended by the officials. |
