Jalandhar, July 20 Doing her best to wear another crown is no mean exercise for this stunner. From following a strict diet regime, regular workouts, attending grooming sessions and learning Spanish, she is totally engrossed in the schedule. “The contest is scheduled for November 18 at Spanish speaking Chile, in South America. I am learning the language just to have an edge. An acquaintance from Chile is taking sessions for me”, said Amruta sporting a smile during a press conference held at airhostess training institute. “In case I make it to the contest, I will move across the world spreading message to save the Mother Earth and in case I that does not happen I will continue with modelling”, she said adding that she was not interested in films, item numbers or advertisements. Very articulate, Amruta said she was not like that before the contest. “I was too shy and lacked communication skills. Late result card costs student promising seat
Jalandhar, July 20 The city-based student could not get admission in Punjabi University, Patiala, during the counselling session being held at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, yesterday as the Punjab Technical University failed to give him a detailed marks certificate for B.Tech (electronics and communication engineering). Disappointed, he said he had taken an undertaking in this regard from the Registrar of the Sri Sukhmani Institute of Engineering and Technology, Dera Bassi, Prof Gurpreet Kaur, but Punjabi University told him to get an undertaking from the principal. Jan Nayak Singh said since he could not go back to his college, he approached the Deputy Dean Establishment of the PTU, Mr Rajneesh Sachdeva, who was at the counselling session. The deputy Dean then issued an undertaking saying that he should meet Dr R.K. Bedi, coordinator MET-2006, or the Deputy Coordinator, Dr M.D. Singh. Jan Nayak was asked to provide a tabulation sheet in an hour, which he did. His college authorities faxed him his tabulation sheet giving his marks but it was too late. “All seats in Guru Nanak Dev University and Punjabi University had been filled by that time and I was told to fill an option for the University School of Management, Talwandi Sabo, or Punjabi University’s Regional Centre for Information and Tech, Mohali, or a PTU college, which I did not want. “I was too excited at having got a good rank but this is cruel. It has not been mentioned in the brochure that the detailed marks certificate (DMC) is to come from college or university. If the university issues DMC six months after the result, how am I to be blamed for it?” he asked showing the documents proving his overall 71 per cent in PTU. Talking to The Tribune, Mr Sachdeva said he tried his level best to sort out the case and help the student but it was up to the Guru Nanak Dev University authorities to make the final decision. |

Phagwara, July 20 Lashing out at Islamabad’s role for its continued support to terrorism, Mr Mittal, while talking to newspersons here today, said India should adopt a ‘tough stance’ against Pakistan as cross-border terrorism had crossed limits of tolerance. Suggesting that India should stop the ongoing dialogue with Pakistan in the wake of the recent Mumbai blasts, he said all talks and cross-border journeys had become irrelevant and had been reduced to a farce. He said New Delhi should resume talks only when Islamabad stopped fomenting terrorism in India and had wiped out terror camps on its soil.
