Another victim of fraud NRI marriages
Ludhiana, July 15
Six years after her NRI husband left her with a promise to send for her, Satwinder Kaur Jumb is now losing hope of his return with every passing day. A local court had declared Satwinder’s husband a proclaimed offender after the latter failed to appear in the court despite repeated summoning. Satwinder had married an NRI, Ashwini Kumar Mehmi, by garlanding his picture at a ceremony.

Woman cheats kin, leaves for Canada
Jagraon, July 15
A case of cheating has come to light with the registration of a case under Sections 406, 420 and 120-B of the IPC at the Sidhwanbet police station where in a sister performed marriage with her brother. She left for Canada after cheating one of her relatives of Rs 4.1 lakh on the pretext that the woman would take their son to Canada.

S.K. Sharma is Sugarfed MD
Ludhiana, July 15
Mr Vikas Partap is the new Commissioner of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation. He replaces Mr S.K. Sharma, who has been appointed Managing Director of Sugarfed. Both swap their places of postings. The orders to this effect were issued yesterday. Mr Sharma will relinquish charge on Monday and Mr Partap will be joining on that day only.

SAD ‘terror’ tactics flayed

The International Human Rights Organisation has condemned the bomb blasts in Mumbai and Srinagar, including the terror let loose by Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) activists on SAD (Amritsar) leaders and workers who were peacefully protesting against BJP leader Arun Jaitley at the Circuit House on July 10.

Reservation counter at railway station demanded

Sumandip of Sidhwanbet allegedly has stolen a cellphone of Subhir Kumar of his village while he was in Nanaksar village. The police has registered a case under Section 379 of the IPC. No arrest has been made so far.

The intake capacity of BBA and BCA courses of Punjab College of Technical Education, PCTE, has been increased from 120 to 200 each by Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar. PTU has increased the seats of PCTE in these courses because of excellent academic performance of the institution at national level.

Bristol-Myers Squibb has announced the launch of Baraclude (Entecavir) for the treatment of chronic hepatitis-B infection following its approval by the Drug Controller General of India.

De-addiction centre inaugurated

Principal. Ram Singh, chief organiser of the Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle, inaugurated a 15-bed de-addiction centre at Quila Raipur here. He said the circle had been working for drug abuse prevention for the past 30 years.
