Police rule out suicide in missing advocate case

The police here have become suspicious of the theory of suicide attributed to the disappearance of Mr Rajesh Gumber, an advocate of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and resident of Chandigarh.

‘Buggis’, shikaras to lure tourists

Liquor kiosks flout ban, display hoardings

Even as the Union Government has been considering putting an end to surrogate advertisements of liquor and tobacco brands on the television channels, the powers-that-be in Chandigarh have turned a blind eye to huge hoardings put up by many liquor contractors on the sides of the make-shift liquor kiosks.

Workshop for disabled to form self-help groups

The Chandigarh Child and Women Development Corporation Limited, a channelling agency for the scheme of NHFDC, organised a workshop for persons with disabilities for motivating disabled persons to form self-help groups for availing financial assistance in the form of loan for self employment.

BJP opposed to proposed garbage-disposal plant

Leaders of the local unit of the BJP have demanded immediate cancellation of the agreement signed by the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh with M/s Jay Parkash Associates to set up a garbage-disposal plant at Dadu Majra.

Three buffaloes electrocuted

Three buffaloes were found dead in open area in Sector 43, here this morning. The police said the animals, belonging to a Kejheri resident, were electrocuted during the night after coming in contact with live wires, lying on the ground.

Loader dies in freak accident
Chandigarh, June 28
A 50-year-old resident of Colony No. 4 was sandwiched to death between two trucks in Phase I, Industrial Area, here this afternoon. The victim was loading goods from one truck to another, when one of the trucks moved as its brakes were not properly applied leading to the victim’s death.

Child’s death: house owner held
Chandigarh, June 28 The local police today arrested a Burail resident on allegations of causing death due to negligence after an eight-year-old child was crushed under the parapets of his house, which collapsed during construction work on June 23, leaving the child severely injured. The child succumbed to his injuries at the PGI on last night.

2 attacked by group
Mohali, June 28
Two men were seriously injured when they were allegedly attacked by a group of five men. The incident took place at the Punjabi University Extension Library in Phase VII where the two were sitting outside on the lawns. One of the victims, Pradeep Rana, told the police that he, along with his friend, were accosted by a group of five men, whom they did not know, at the library.

2 murder accused get police remand

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate A.D. Gaud has remanded two murder accused, Deepak and Rakesh, alias Bobby, to one-day police custody. Deepak and Rakesh, who were arrested by the CIA staff of the Panchkula police a couple of days ago, were produced before the court.

Prosthodontics a boon for patients
Chandigarh, June 28
A local resident, Subhash, (not real name) underwent a traumatic experience ever since he was diagnosed with cancer some years ago. With surgery as the only option, he underwent an operation for removal of the cancerous growth in his eye 18 months back. Although the surgery involving removal of his right eye and palate was successful, the deep scar on his face affected his appearance.

Swimming, skating camp concludes

The one-month swimming and skating training camp organised by the Golden Bells Public School, Sector-77, here concluded today. Sahib Malhotra A promising cricketer of St. John’s Cricket Academy, Sector-26, here has been selected for the under-15 and under-17 teams of Himachal Pradesh.
