Now, Ateli MLA takes govt to task over SEZ issue
Narnaul, June 18 The MLA, who is head of the Haryana Yuva Kisan Sangharsh Samiti, today held a panchayat here to register their protest over various issues. The samiti decided to organise a rally on August 1 to launch an agitation in support of various demands, including equitable water distribution to the region and the opposition to the creation of the SEZ. Speaking at the panchayat, Mr Yadav, who has been the only Independent MLA to come out open on the issue of water distribution and the delay in the construction of the SYL canal, said the Congress had also been indulging in “politics” over the matter in view of the impending elections in Punjab. There are 10 Independent MLAs in the Assembly and a majority of them has been supporting the government. Stating that the water table in the districts of Mahendergarh, Rewari, Gurgaon, Jhajjar, Faridabad and Bhiwani had gone down sharply over the years, he said the government despite the
promise made before the elections had failed to give the due share of water to these districts. Exhorting his supporters to be ready to launch an agitation, he said since a year had passed and there had been no move either to provide water to the region or to launch any development project, especially for the youth. It was announced that after the launch of an awareness campaign in the region from June 25, a rally would be organised on August 1 if the government failed to address the issues properly. Describing the move to allot 25,000 acres to Reliance for setting up the SEZ at Jhajjar as “anti-farmer” and against the interests of the state, he said there was no guarantee of job or secure future for the farmers whose land would be acquired. Clamming that the farmer was paid too little for the land, he said its value would get hiked several times after it came into the hands of builders or developers. Asking the government why the poor, whose land would be acquired, were not being given partnership in the project, he said it was like driving out the people from the state by making them landless and jobless. He said while the water table in the area had gone down up to 1,400 feet, there was no water for irrigation or drinking at tail end and hundreds of villages had been awaiting their share
of water. Several local leaders and activists from Bhiwani, Jhajjar, Narnaul, Rewari and Gurgaon took part in the panchayat. |

Kuldip’s defiance to add to infighting
Chandigarh, June 18 The way Mr Bishnoi has been supported by his father, Mr Bhajan Lal, who is the president of the Haryana Congress, will further
aggravate the situation. Mr Bhajan Lal has reportedly said that what Mr Bishnoi had said about the Reliance deal The former Chief Minister made light of the notice to Mr Bishnoi by saying that such notices were a routine in a party like the Congress and everything would be sorted out
within the party. Mr Bishnoi is believed to have written in his reply that as an MP his role was that of a bridge between the government and the people and if the government committed a wrong deed, it was his duty to point it out. Mr Bishnoi was given 15 days to reply to the notice, but he took only four While Mr Bishnoi's "defiance" and Mr Bhajan Lal's support to him have gladdened his supporters, it will certainly put the high command in a quandary. If the high command does not take action, it will be accused of encouraging the
dissidence in a state where the party was very comfortably placed in the Assembly, with
no opposition worth its salt. On the other hand, it may not like to precipitate the situation to an extent where Mr Bishnoi may quit the party as
a "martyr". By serving the show-cause notice to Mr Bishnoi, the high command has sent a clear message that it is fully behind the Chief Minister and the Reliance deal has at least its tacit support, or even may be
its blessings. This has made the position of the Chief Minister unassailable in the party. |

Woman goes missing from Amritsar not Gharaunda: husband
Karnal, June 18 Vijender had reported to the police that his wife had been missing from Gharaunda since June 9. But yesterday Vijender stated that Poonam “disappeared” from Amritsar and not from Gharaunda. Confirming this to The Tribune, the SHO, Gharaunda, Mr Gorakhpal Rana, said investigations revealed that Poonam went missing from Amritsar. He said Vijender and his family admitted they were afraid of registering a case in Amritsar, so they cooked up the story. Now, the police would register a case against Vijender under Section 182, IPC, for providing false information, the SHO said. Meanwhile, sources in the police said there some clues about the whereabouts of the couple. An official said the Bhiwani police had also confirmed that Surinder had also been missing since June 9 and he had not attended his office since then. Even the Punjab and Haryana High Court had intervened after members of her community allegedly picked up Poonam from Bhiwani. In a statement to the police last night, Vijender claimed that he was unaware if Poonam was already married to Surinder and said the fact was surfaced only after she went missing. The SHO said Vijender along with his wife had gone to Vaishno Devi. On their way back, they planned to visit the Golden Temple and from there she stated to be missing. He said since the girl went missing from Amritsar a case would be registered there only. |

MDU teachers to be allowed consultancy
Rohtak, June 18 The executive council of the university will discuss the proposal at its meeting to be held here on June 23. Under this proposal the university has also proposed to allow inter-institutional collaboration in select areas of research for mutual benefit. There will be broadly two types of consultancy services. Under the individual category, teachers can provide their services but will not be allowed to use any MDU facilities like laboratories and computers or other specialised equipment. Under the institutional or departmental consultancy category, the teaching department or a group of teachers will be allowed to provide consultancy to outside institutions. Prior permission of the Head of the Department concerned and the Dean will be necessary before entering into any agreement. The sources said the maximum period to be spent on any kind of consultancy will not exceed 30 days in a year. The teachers will have to share the fees with the university. All payments will be received by cheque or demand draft in favour of the Finance Officer of the university. In the individual category, teachers will get 60 per cent of the fees, provided that the total fee received in a year will not exceed his or her annual salary. The balance of 40 per cent will go to the university development fund out of which half will be passed on to the department concerned. Under departmental or institutional consultancy, the team leader will decide the share of each member of the team. All departments will be required to file reports of consultancy services and fees received to the VC annually. The sources said the authorities expected that the new proposal if approved by the EC will help both the teachers and the university not only financially but also academically. The research work will also be put to use productively. However, many teachers are not very optimistic about the success of the scheme, lamenting that the quality of research at present was not up to the level which could attract outside agencies to hire their services. Nevertheless, they said, it would motivate the teachers to engage in research which could have industrial or other uses. |
