Amritsar
Gang busted
: The Rambagh police has busted a gang of looters here and arrested three of its members, including the kingpin while two of their companions managed to escape. The accused were identified as Paramjit Singh and Kanwaljit Singh of Fateh Singh Colony and Gabbar Singh of Anngarh.

Batala
Driver dies
: A truck driver, namely Balwinder Singh of Bham village, who was injured seriously, succumbed to his injuries in the Civil Hospital, Batala, on Thursday. He was injured when his truck dashed against a tree near the railway crossing near Dhariwal.

Hoshiarpur
Body found
: The body of Mr Harminder Singh, son of Sardara Singh of Chuharpur police station, in Nawanshahr, was found on the track near Bhajlan village on Thursday. According to police sources, his motorcycle was also parked near the track. It is suspected that he committed suicide by jumping himself before the train.

Jalandhar
One held with drugs
: A man was arrested on charges of smuggling poppy husk from Rajasthan here on Thursday. Dilaya is a resident of Kingran Chau village. The police also recovered 160 kg of poppy husk from his possession. The accused was nabbed while he was allegedly waiting to strike a deal at Randhawa Masanda village. He has been booked under Sections 15, 61, 85 of the NDPS Act.

Phagwara
Two held
: The police on Friday arrested two persons on charges of stealing car stereos. Sanjeev Kumar, a resident of Sunnra Khurd village, and Paramjit of Rurki village in Goraya were arrested by a team headed by City police station SHO Gurwinder Singh. A stereo was also recovered.

Tax help centre: The Income Tax Department opened a “Help Centre” here on Friday. Deputy Income Tax Commissioner Sunil Saxena said the centre would provide all kinds of help to tax assesses. The help centre would be open till August 15.

OFFICE-BEARERS: Mr Gurnam Singh Sewak, president of the All India Garib Bhalai Party, said on Wednesday at the local civil rest house that the government’s promises and policies to uplift poor had not yielded desirable result. He appointed office-bearers of the party’s tehsil unit as: president — Mr Baljeet Singh Baghauria; vice-president — Mr Sukhjinder Singh Kler; general secretary — Mr Navroop Singh Dhaliwal. —

Sangrur
Drive launched
: Mr S.R. Ladhar, Deputy Commissioner, Sangrur, on Thursday launched a cleanliness drive at Mahavir Chowk, near the Civil Hospital, here on Thursday. He said the drive would continue while the officers concerned would take stock of the cleanliness work after every 15 days.

4 cows killed: Four cows were killed while four others were injured when a truck, loaded with cows and bulls, overturned on the Sangrur-Patiala road, near Harkishanpura village, about 10 km from here on Thursday night.

Theft
: Thieves decamped with woolen clothes and taps from the house of Ms Poonam Kaur Duggal in Phase VII. Ms Duggal found out about the theft when she returned from Delhi after a few days on Friday. The police suspects that the thieves entered the building by removing the grill of a window.

Cyclist hurt: One person was injured in an accident in Phase VII here on Friday. According to reports, Mr Bhag Singh, a resident of Mohali village, was going on a bicycle when he was hit by an unidentified vehicle. The police reached the scene and took the injured Bhag Singh to the Civil Hospital in Phase VI .

Woman missing
: Bhim Singh of the Jain Chowk area in a report with the police on Wednesday that his wife, Ritu, had gone missing since Tuesday morning 

Dowry death case registered: Gulab Singh of Sanwad village has reported to the police that his daughter Poonam was harassed by his son -in -law Sompal for more dowry . The police has registered a case against Sompal.

FATEHABAD
Model Contest
: Cotton County, one of the leading men's wear brand of the Nahar Group of Ludhiana, on Wednesday started 'Cotton County Mega Model' contest in five cities of Haryana, including Fatehabad. During the 10-day-long contest, the company will select two models each from Karnal, Rohtak, Bhiwani, Kurukshetra and Fatehabad.

Villagers protest
: Incensed by the state government's proposal to set up a thermal power station in Matanhail village, hundreds of residents held a demonstration and blocked the roads leading to the villageon Wednesday. Among the protestors were villagers from Matanhail and its nearby villages —Rudiawas, Nogaon, Nimali.

4 bodies found: Four bodies were found from different places in the district on Wednesday. Only one of the bodies has been identified.

ROHTAK
Three held
: The local police has booked three persons for allegedly abducting directors of a Delhi -based inverter manufacturing company. The victims had gone to their distributor on June 11. From there they were abducted and taken to Shivaji Colony residence of a former distributor of the company with whom the company has some financial dispute. The accused were produced in a local court Wednesday.

Farmers hold demonstration: Hundreds of farmers from several villages attached to Basantpura Power House in Jathlana demonstrated at the power house against inadequate power supply to their villages on Thursday morning. The farmers who had gathered under the banner of Bharatiya Kisan Union raised slogans against the government and demanded adequate power for the farmers. Later, the BKU led by its state unit secretary Vijay Mehta submitted a five point demand to the officials of the electricity department. —

YAMUNANAGAR
Inauguration
: Mr O. P Lohan, Additional Deputy Commissioner inaugurated three rooms at Government Primary School in Shajadwala village of Chhachhrouli block on Wednesday. He also announced a grant of Rs 40,000 for raising a boundary wall of  the school.

Honour for blood donation: Fourteen colleges, seven government schools, 17 NGOs and 83 persons were honoured for making blood donations. Ms Vineeta Kaushik, wife of the Deputy Commissioner, J. P. Kaushik, gave away the prizes.
