Doab canal faces breaches
Gurdaspur June 16
Due to poor maintenance at many places the Upper Bari Doab Canal is on the verge of breach. The Tribune team recently visited the Sathiali area from where the Sadroa branch of the UBDC passes. Sukhbir booked for ‘beating up’ photographer

Sukhbir Singh Badal Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MP Sukhbir Singh Badal, former Markfed Chairman Jagdish Singh Walia, former Faridkot Senior Superintendent of Police A.S. Civil Hospitals without radiologists

Though Civil Hospitals at Sangrur, Barnala, Dhuri and Malerkotla of this district have ultrasound machines but there is no radiologist/authorised doctor in these hospitals for doing ultrasound tests. The patients have no option but to visit private ultrasound centres, which charge high fees compared to the Civil Hospitals.

Factionalism in truck union comes to the fore

Tension prevailed here today when a group of truck operators led by Mr Bhag Singh took possession of the office of the cooperative truck operator union on the Nangal Chowk with the help of the police.

Residents reel under power cuts

With rise in power consumption in agricultural sector, the people of rural areas and cities have been facing more than six hours of power cuts in the district while the PSEB has claimed that it has imposed four hours of power cuts in rural and urban areas.

Nurpurbedi villagers seek bridge

Villagers residing in over 50 villages of Nurpurbedi block of the district have been facing problems in commuting to other areas after the temporary bridge, Sarhna Pattan, over the Sutlej near Bunga Sahib got damaged a few days ago due to heavy flow in the river.

Girl jumps from Gurdwara Baba Atal, dies
Amritsar, June 16
A 25-year-old unidentified girl committed suicide by jumping from the sixth floor of Gurdwara Baba Atal Sahib in the Golden Temple complex here today.

Granthi, sevadar murdered
Mansa, June 16
A granthi and a sevadar of the Biroke Kalan village gurdwara were murdered early this morning. The police has arrested a person in this connection and seized some weapons from his possession.

2 members of dacoits’ gang arrested
Hoshiarpur, June 16
The district police has arrested two members of a dacoits’ gang and solved a case of looting of Gurmit Singh, a son of Mr Balwant Singh of Talwandi Dadian village.
