Schools to close by noon: Keeping in view the prevailing heat wave conditions in the region, Kapurthala Deputy Commissioner Raminder Singh on Tuesday issued instructions to all recognised private schools in the district to close by 12 pm every day. A student fell unconscious in a private school in Baghrian village near Bholath on Saturday. The DC said the students were also facing difficulties due to power cuts and shortage of drinking water.

Phagwara
Cadets part of polio drive
: Dr Joginder Singh from the Civil Hospital on Tuesday delivered a lecture on pulse polio to NCC cadets in the Guru Nanak College, Sukhchainana Sahib. More than 60 cadets from different schools and colleges took part. Principal of the college, Mr Inderjit Singh, appreciated the role being played by the NCC in eradicating social evils. The cadets will render their services in the pulse polio programme scheduled on May 21.

IMA protest: The Phagwara unit of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Tuesday condemned the lathicharge on medicos protesting against the Union government’s move to enhance the reservation quota. On a call from the IMA headquarters, its members wore black badges and submitted a memorandum to the Phagwara SDM.
