Agents shooed away from RBI premises

Taking cognizance of the news published in Chandigarh Tribune in its issue dated May 5, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today jumped into action, and drove away the agents, who were exchanging soiled and mutilated currency notes outside their Regional Office in Sector 17.

No headway in robbery case

The police has failed to make any headway in the Kharag Mangoli robbery case in which a gang of masked and armed robbers struck and left six persons of two families critically injured. The robbers had also decamped with cash and jeweller worth lakhs of rupees.
No clue to murder of elderly couple

The police today checked bank accounts and questioned more persons, but still failed to make any headway in the case of the murder of an elderly couple in Phase IV here on Wednesday.

Security stepped up in city

In the wake of the recent murder of an elderly couple in Mohali and an armed robbery in Panchkula, in which six persons were bludgeoned, the Chandigarh Police today held corner meetings with residents welfare associations and also met elderly people living alone in the city.

Five lakh Indians visited UK last year

The number of visa applications from India to the UK has shown an annual growth of 25 per cent, with as many as five lakh Indians visiting the foreign country last year, British High Commissioner Michael Arthur said today.

Cow electrocuted
Panchkula, May 5
A case of power pilferage at a large scale by jhuggi dwellers in Bhainsa Tibba came to light after a cow of Mr Tarsem Lal, was electrocuted this afternoon. The cow accidentally touched a naked underground electricity wires, laid by the jhuggi dweller to draw power and died on the spot.
