Three Hizb militants, 2 SPOs killed
Jammu, April 25 Security forces shot dead Hizb ‘group commander’ Kamar Din, alias Sajjad, yesterday in an operation to track down the militant who had escaped from the Deval area of Udhampur district after a gunbattle on Sunday, officials said here today. An AK assault rifle, four magazines, 90 rounds and 10 grenades were found on Hizb ‘group commander’, they said adding with this killing, three top commanders of the outfit were killed in the area. In another gunbattle, another Hizb ‘tehsil commander’, identified as Maqbool Hussain, was killed in the Dessa belt of Doda district today and one AK rifle, three magazines, seven grenades and 180 rounds and two wireless sets were recovered from him. The body of another Hizb militant identified as Rehmatullah was recovered from the Desa area of Doda district yesterday, they said. Meanwhile, militants gunned down two SPOs on guard duty at the residence of social worker Shashi Kumar in Pindora village in Doda early today. A search operation had been launched to track militants who fled after the killings, officials said. The bodies of SPOs Rishi Kumar and Ravinder Kumar were handed over to their families. Meanwhile, in separate operations security forces hauled 6.5 kg explosives and an improvised explosive device (IED) from two militant hideouts in Doda and Rajouri districts. BSF troops seized 1.5 kg of explosives, two Chinese grenades, two AK magazines, 27 rounds of AK ammunition, seven detonators, cordex wire and fuse wire from a cave in Kharak forest in Rajouri district on Sunday. Another hideout was busted late Sunday at Dareja in Bhaderwah block of Doda district where the police recovered 16 rounds of AK ammunition, five kg of explosives and an IED fitted in a utensil, sources said.

Plea for taking over Omh shrine
Jammu, April 25 A delegation of Muslims and Hindus of the Dooru area today called on Governor S.K. Sinha and pleaded for taking over of the Omh shrine at Verinag by the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB). A Congress MLA and former minister, Mr G.A. Mir, who led the delegation, told the Governor that being at the gateway of the valley, development and setting up of a base camp at Omh would fulfil aspirations of not only the Kashmiri Pandits but also the Muslims of the area. The Governor said that he would examine the demand. |
