Chandigarh, April 20 "The centre will not be used for any commercial purpose. Health care services will be provided to weaker sections of the society free of cost," said a communication from Healthcare India, the agency that had requested space for the centre. Healthcare India had earlier pointed out that it
would provide free consultations, dispensary, x-ray lab, dental and ECG services. The building and entire equipment would be handed over to the corporation ultimately when the agency wound up its services. Permission had been granted for use of the multi-purpose complex in the village for setting up medicare services. No activity, including chemist shops, STD booths, Verka booths or any other commercial activity would be allowed in the complex. The Chandigarh administration was already considering four more such centres for rural healthcare at Maloya, Mauli Jagran, Sarangpur and Karsan villages. All centres would be maintained by Healthcare India. The site was put up for auction twice before— as a hotel site and as a multiplex site— but it failed to draw any bidders. The committee also cleared the reserve price of Rs 4.13 crore separately for three school sites in Manimajra. The site measured two acres in all the three cases. Reserve price for another school site in Manimajra (Pocket 10) measuring 1.15 acres had been fixed at Rs 2.38 crore. The committee allotted the Verka booth in Manimajra to a handicapped person as an exceptional case on three years lease (expendable). The committee also allowed installation of towers of Airtel on all feasible sites over certain community centres falling under the jurisdiction of the MC for a period of 20 years. The company would pay Rs one lakh for each tower with an increase of 10 per cent each year. The committee also accorded approval to incurring of expenditure over and above the approved estimate of the Roads Committee, F and CC and the general house of the MC for recarpeting of the roads. |
