Cyclist dead
: Cyclist Amarjit Singh (32) of Bhambian was crushed to death when a Maruti car PB-02Q-4357 hit his cycle near Saila, about 40 km from here, on Tuesday. According to police sources, Amarjit Singh was going towards Tuto Mazara. The police has registered a case under Section 279, 304 and 427 of the IPC against Gadabar Singh of Kot Fatuhi.

Suicide
: Raj Kaur (35), a resident of nearby Dulladi village, died after consuming celphos tablets in Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, on Wednesday. She was first brought to the Civil Hospital but was referred to Rajindra Hospital when her condition deteriorated.

Dowry death: Fed up with altercations and dowry demands, Harbir Kaur, alias Sonia, married in Dojhian Street here, ended her life on Tuesday night. She doused herself with diesel at the residence of her in-laws and set herself on fire. She died on the spot. Harbir Kaur who was married to Inderjit Singh in 1995 and was the mother of a son and a daughter. On the complaint of a brother of the deceased, Jatinder Pal of Patiala, a case had been registered against her husband Inderjit Singh and mother-in-law Mohinder Kaur.

Villagers’ protest
: Residents of the town and surrounding villages held a protest here on Wednesday against the failure of the administration to supply them drinking water for the past several days. Mr Kamal Kumar, a resident of Ladochak, said residents of Ladochak, Kothi Panta di and Deriwal had not been receiving water supply.

Office bearers: A meeting of members of the Pathankot Citizen Consumer Protection Association was held here on Tuesday. The following were elected office-bearers: president — Mr Ram Rattan Sharma; vice-president — Mr P.C. Dogra; general secretary, Mr Anil Mehra; and treasurer — Mr J.S. Guleria.

Electrocuted: A nine-year-old girl was electrocuted in her house in Ropa Colony in Sarkaghat town on Monday. She was rushed to hospital where she was declared “brought dead.”

2 houses gutted: Two houses were gutted in a fire in Karhyal village in Barot in Jogindernagar subdivision on Monday. The victims — Hari Ram and Brama Nand — rued that the administration had yet to give them assistance. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained.

Judicial remand: The District and Sessions Court sent two persons from Kurukshetra, arrested under the NDPS Act by the Mandi police after it claimed to have recovered 6 kg charas from their possession near Pandoh last week, to 14 days’ judicial remand here on Monday.

Child found: A newly born girl child, wrapped in a polythene bag, was found abandoned in bushes at Khushinagar, near here, on Wednesday afternoon. According to information, Kulbant and Yashpal, local residents, heard the cries of the new-born and noticed the baby left abandoned in bushes near the national highway. They informed the police and brought the baby to the Civil Hospital.

Rs 30,000 stolen: A broad daylight theft was committed in the house of Mahinder Mehra on Tuesday at Nagni, near here. The thieves reportedly decamped with jewellery and cash worth Rs 30,000. The police has registered a theft case.
