IMA to hold seminar on PNDT Act

Ludhiana, April 4
The Punjab state branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), along with the Punjab Medical Council (PMC) and Rajendra Hospital, will organise a seminar on the PNDT Act and its implementation at the auditorium of Rajendra Hospital, Patiala on April 16.

Ms Parneet Kaur, Member of Parliament and Chairperson, PNDT State Advisory Committee, would be the chief guest.

Dr Gursharan Singh, state secretary of IMA, said the seminar would deliberate on key issues like the role of IMA in checking female feticide and guidelines for filling forms F and G for ultrasound scan to rule out possibility of harassment on technical grounds.

Dr Singh remarked that the IMA was working towards the objective that only the real black sheep among medical professionals were caught and harassment and humiliation of doctors, on one pretext or the other, or on mild technical grounds was put to an end.

City orthopaedician attends global meet

Dr J.L. Bassi, Professor and Head, Department of Orthopaedics at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital here was invited by the American Association of Orthopaedicians to attend an international conference at Chicago. Dr Bassi was the lone participant from the region for this prestigious conference.

The participants discussed latest technologies for hip and knee replacement.

Belts awarded to martial arts players

A two-day martial arts workshop organised by the Dragon Tiger Technique Chinese Martial Arts affiliated to the Kung Fu Federation of India concluded at the Liesure Valley, Sarabha Nagar, here, on Monday night.

As many as 30 players in different age groups took part in the workshop. 22 of them were awarded belts at its conclusion.

Those who were awarded belts include- (brown belt)- Kirandeep Kaur, Kanav Kochar, Harshanjot Singh, Jayveer Singh Bajaj, Raghav Kochar and Naushat Alam; (maroon belt)- Abhipsha Patro; (blue belt)- Gurpal Singh and Vikramjit Singh; (green belt)- Tamanna Patro, Sahil Dutta, Subhash Kumar and Karan Bansal; (orange belt)- Mayank Kapoor, Sabur Ali, Dharmender Kumar, Kalam and Deepak; (yellow belt)- Sampuran Singh, Girija Goinka, Hardik Sood, Gangaram, D C Singh, Akhar Ali and Sakil.

According to Mr G C Mandal, spokesperson of the Dragon Tigers Technique Chinese Martial Arts, a five-member team comprising Naushad Alam, Surinder Singh, Harjashonjot Singh, Gurpal Singh and Kirandeep Kaur has been selected to take part in the Inter-State Meet to be held on April 22 and 23 in Orissa.

Cricket trials tomorrow

Ludhiana, April 4
Trials to select the Ludhiana cricket team (u-15 years) will begin at 8.30 am at the Arya College ground on April 6.

According to a spokesperson of the Ludhiana District Cricket Association, the selected probables will undergo training at the same venue prior to the final selection for the forthcoming Punjab State Inter-District Cricket Tournament for the Sushil Bali Trophy to be organised by the Punjab Cricket Association at different venues from April 15.

Players born on or after September 1, 1991 are eligible for the trials.
