PAU students’ union splits

The Punjab Agricultural University Students’ Union has split with two groups, with each one claiming to be the real representatives. While the incumbent president Swaran Singh Boparai resigned from the post after he was rusticated from the university, the rival group appointed Gursher Singh Sandhu as the president. The supporters of Sandhu claimed that their group had been recognised by the authorities and given the possession of the PAUSA office also.

Boparai’s group has appointed Mandeep Singh of the College of Agriculture as the president. Boparai and others were rusticated following a clash in the campus between two rival groups.

Supporters of Sandhu claimed that there was a criminal case registered against Boparai. They claimed that they would take up issues of the students and ensure that the campus remains peaceful and free from violence.

Christian Dental College conducts seminar

Christian Dental College (CDC) conducted a continuing dental education programme for general dental practitioners and students and faculty of the college here today.

According to Dr J.L. Joshi, Principal of CDC, more than 150 dental surgeons attended the seminar. As a goodwill gesture, the host institution had waived off registration fee to enable maximum number of dental professionals benefit from the programme.

Meanwhile, around 600 patients were examined and free medicines distributed among them at a medical camp organised by Christian Medical College and Hospital at Gorsian village, near Jagraon today.

In addition to rendering follow up advice to patients, the village population was advised on preventive measures and improved personal hygiene for healthy living.

City girl to hold fashion show in Belfast

Inspired from the world of magic and fantasy, Anjali, a final year BSc Fashion Management student of Belfast Institute will organise with her team a fashion show in Northern Island on the theme ‘A Fashion Tale’ on April 5and 6.

An alumni of a local school, she joined Belfast Institute and its fashion show is one of the most prestigious fashion events. The show will be held in the magnificent Waterfront Hall Complex, Belfast.

Her ladies’ wear collection is titled Shanti. It is dedicated to and named after her grandmother.

Farewell Party

Smart Way Classes, a centre of excellence in English language, organised a farewell party yesterday to bid adieu to the students of the last batch. Mr Parveen Kumar Bhargava of North India Technical Consultancy Organisation Ltd, Chandigarh was the chief guest. In his keynote address, he urged the students to work hard and also advised the students to face the challenges of life with determination.

Faculty members Ms Baldish Kaur and Mr Charanpreet Singh was also honoured on the occasion.

Prof Kuldip Singh has been elected president of the Doraha unit of the Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers Union and Prof Mohinder Kaur secretary of the union.

Prof Gursharan Kaur has been re-elected finance secretary and Prof Gursharanjit Singh and Prof Sukhwinder Singh Virk have been made state delegates.
