SBI staff strike halts bank transactions

Outcry against another proposed liquor shop

The outcry over the opening of wine shops in residential areas fails to die down. Residents of Salem Tabri today protested against a liquor shop coming up near a school and a religious place.

District credit plan outlay hiked
Ludhiana, April 3
Deputy Commissioner Anurag Verma announced the annual credit plan for the year 2006-07 for Ludhiana district here today. The plan outlay has been increased by 15 per cent to Rs 4,439 crore in comparison to the previous year.

Grapes are not sour, advocates PAU
Ludhiana, April 3
Horticulturists at Punjab Agricultural University are rewriting the script of the school-time story “grapes are sour”. Unlike the fox which grumbled and walked away in a huff, unable to reach the grapes, Dr. M.J.S. Gill is not foxed by the monsoon which plays a spoilsport with grapes in Punjab at the ripening stage.

Excise Dept shoots target
Ludhiana, April 3
For the second consecutive year, the Ludhiana Central Excise Commissioner ate has exceeded the revenue collection target by netting Rs 369 crore (target Rs 362 crore) from central excise and another Rs 118 crore from service tax for the year ending March 2006.
