Tributes paid to Jindal
Hisar, March 31 A large number of Jindal group employees, besides family members of the late Om Prakash Jindal donated blood at a camp organised at the Jindal Steel industry to mark the occasion. Medical teams from the District Red Cross Society, Civil Hospital and Agroha Medical College were there to conduct the camp. The late leader’s sons, including the Congress MP from Kurukshetra, Mr Naveen Jindal, Mr Sajjan Jindal and Mr Ratan Jindal, besides his daughter, Seema, donated blood. Talking to mediapersons on the occasion, they said they had donated blood to pay tributes to their late “Bauji”. Mr Naveen Jindal disclosed that the work on setting up O.P.Jindal Memorial Park near the Mill Gate area in the city, apart from a knowledge centre, was already under way. He said another programme in memory of his late father would be organised at Kurukshetra tomorrow, in which Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda would launch four mobile medical vans. These medical vans would be deployed in Hisar, Kaithal, Yamunanagar and Kurukshetra districts, where they would go into the rural areas to provide medical aid to villagers. After the blood donation camp, an all-religion prayer meeting was organised in the late minister’s memory. The late Jindal’s wife and Haryana Minister of State for Urban Development, Ms Savitri Jindal, along with her family members, Congress leaders and other prominent residents of the city paid tributes to the leader. Meanwhile, the District Congress Committee and the local Youth Congress unit, besides the management, staff and students of Vidya Devi Jindal School and Jindal Modern School also paid tributes to the leader. |
Separate gurdwara panel: HSGPC protest on April 2
Kurukshetra, March 31 HSGPC, general secretary, Didar Singh Nalvi said here the step was decided to protest against non-fulfillment of demands related to formation of separate gurdwara prabandhak committee for managing gurdwaras in Haryana non-issue of notification declaring Punjabi as second language in educational institutions of Haryana. Expressing concern on the passive attitude of Mr Bhupender Singh Hooda-led government, Mr Nalvi alleged although, the Congress before coming to power, had promised in election manifesto to fulfill the demands, but nothing had been done so far. Condemning the anti-Sikh role of Mr Chatha, who is also chairman of the eight-member panel constituted by the Haryana government for the formation of a separate gurdwara prabandhak committee for gurdwaras in Haryana, Mr Nalvi alleged Mr Chatha’s stance was more pro-Prakash Singh Badal, SAD chief, than the Sikhs of Haryana, of which Mr Chatha is a political representative. On the role of Dr Ram Prakash, working president, Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC), Mr Nalvi alleged that Dr Ram Prakash was ignoring interests of Sikh electorate in Haryana and had not bothered to win Sikhs’ trust. Mr Nalvi said at a seminar, organised by Sikh advocates of Haryana, here on March 26, Mr Ajit Singh Bains, a former judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, had declared that under Section 72 of the Punjab Reorganisation Act, 1966, Parliament of India had authorised the Haryana government to manage affairs of gurdwaras in Haryana. Justice Bains, speaking on the legal aspects of the formation of separate SGPC for gurdwaras in Haryana, said that “It was mandatory and not optional for the Haryana government to do so and any delay in the matter would amount to denial of justice to the Sikhs in Haryana, which was not understandable, even politically.” The government of Haryana could not be selective in establishing an Agriculture University at Hisar, Kurukshetra University at Kurukshetra and deny formation of separate gurdwara management committee in Haryana, simply because this part of Section 72 of the Punjab Reorganisation Act, 1966, happened to pertain to the Sikhs of Haryana. It could not be acceptable in a secular set-up,” added Mr Bains. Mr Nalvi suggested the Haryana government should take them into confidence by starting negotiations with HSGPC (Ad-hoc) leaders to solve the problem. |
Fake Basmati plays havoc with subsoil water
Fatehabad, March 31 Mr Rajesh Khullar, Director, Agriculture, Haryana, has launched a campaign to educate and make the farmers aware of the adverse effects of summer paddy. The campaign has shown some positive results. Summer paddy has become popular among farmers in paddy-growing areas because it is produced in the period between the rabi and the kharif crops. The paddy variety is also known as “saathi” as the farmers claim that they can get the crop within 60 days from the day of sowing. Though actually it takes a little longer duration. Interestingly, it is such a variety of paddy which no farmer likes to keep with him for his household use. It does not have a good taste but due to its shape being identical with that of Basmati, it is known as “duplicate Basmati” and is used by unscrupulous millers for mixing it with Basmati. Farmers prefer this variety as it is rewarding and fetches them an extra crop in a year. The crop, however, has been putting tremendous pressure on the underground water and power resources. Mr Khullar told this correspondent today that an estimated 4,500 l of water was needed to produce 1 kg of “saathi”. He said it was so because the evaporation of water from the fields was maximum during April and May when “saathi” was transplanted. He said this was the reason why the water table that used to be around 6 feet in these areas in seventies had now crossed over 150 feet and the farmers had been forced to replace their tubewells. |
Rs 1.20 crore for new
look to CM’s motorcade
Chandigarh, March 31 The state government will soon add the Ford Endeavour sports
utility vehicle (SUV) to the motorcade. At present, the old horses, Ambassadors, have to accompany the fast-moving Mercedes of the Chief Minister in his motorcade. Sources say the Ambassadors cannot keep pace with the Mercedes, as a result of which the speed of the motorcade is reduced considerably. The reduced speed, the sources say, can be a security risk. Therefore, it was decided to replace the Ambassadors with a SUVs. The choice, the sources say, has zeroed in on the Ford Endeavour. While an order for one Ford Endeavour has already been placed, the sources say 10 more SUVs will be ordered soon. Each vehicle will cost about Rs 12 lakh. |

It is further stated, “Being a static organisation designed to deal with civil matters, the Sub Area is frequented by a number of military as well as civil members of the cantonment. Police officials today reaffirmed that they had not received any complaint from the Army with regard to loss of files or documents. The break-in is being investigated from various angles and police officials are not ruling out the possibility of the intruder looking for something specific in the office. The Superintendent of Police, Ambala, Mr Rajbir Deswal, said that an FIR had been lodged and there was no mention of files being lost. He said that damage had been caused to the door and some other articles in the office. “We have recovered ‘chance prints’ from the scene. Resentment against selection of lecturer
Rohtak, March 31 In a statement issued here today, Dr Rajinder Chaudhary, president, MDUTA, said this person had worked as a lecturer for about four years from 1992. At that time this individual did not even fulfil the minimum qualification for the post. He alleged that this candidate passed the examination for a master’s degree in a particular subject even while teaching the same courses. He said the post was neither advertised nor approved by the executive council of the university. Later, this person filed cases in the court but lost both in the lower court as well as in the High Court. However, the university again made a bid to let this individual join the post in 2001 which was thwarted with the intervention of the state government. He said in November 2005, the EC decided to regularise the services rendered between 1992 and 1996. The decision was sent to the state government for its approval which had been granted. However, he said the university was interpreting the regularisation of that period of service as a clearance for allowing this individual to join as lecturer. |
