Youth Cong protest: A slogan-shouting procession was taken out by Youth Congress workers of Shampura village in this tehsil to protest against the alleged high-handedness of the sarpanch, Mrs Harjinder Kaur, and her husband Gurinder Singh Shampura who is also a member of the SGPC. The processionists raised slogans against the BDPO of Batala and Mr Shampura. They alleged harassment to a minority community. HOSHIARPUR
Seminar on AIDS: A seminar on the Correct and complete information could prevent from AIDS was organised by the ESI Hospital at Appollo Fibres Limited, Chohal, 12 km from here, on Wednesday. Mr Dipankar Ganguly, Managing Director, Appollo Fibres, said prevention was the only treatment of AIDS. He emphasised the need for mass awakening about this disease. Dr Manjit Kaur, Civil Surgeon, Hoshiarpur, who presided over the seminar, said out of 4.3 crore persons suffering from AIDS, 50 per cent were women in the world. The main cause for spreading this disease was unsafe sex. Man shot at: Mr Harbhajan Singh, alias Babba, was seriously wounded when Bhupinder Singh, alias Bhinda, an employee of the Punjab police posted at Ludhiana, allegedly opened fire on him from his revolver at Sikri PS Hariana village on Tuesday evening. He was admitted to the local Civil Hospital from where he was referred to DMC, Ludhiana. The Hariana police has registered a case against the two under Section 25 of the Arms Act and Sections 307 and 34 of the IPC. NAWANSHAHR
