Naturopathy camp from tomorrow

Mohali, March 23
A yoga and naturopathy camp will be organised at the Service Club, Ropar, from March 25 to April 3 with the assistance of the Punjab Government. This was stated by the president of the Vishav Jyoti Yog Ashram, Mohali.

Ms Kiran Grewal, Chairperson, Red Cross, Ropar, would inaugurate the camp.

State awardee Sukhdeep Singh, project director, yoga and nature cure, Punjab, with the assistance of other yoga experts would examine patients. The workshop would be conducted by yogachariya Naveen Kumar. TNS

Kanika clinches Chandigarh Open title

Kanika Minocha clinched the Grewal Salver defeating her nearest rival Parnita Garewal by a big margin of 14 strokes on the final day of the 14th Chandigarh Open Ladies Amateur Golf Championship played on the lush course of the Chandigarh Golf Club here today.

It was not a good start for Kanika. But as the game progressed she steadied her game to finish with a four-over card of 76 for a three-day aggregate of 227. On the other hand Parnita had a good start shooting birdies on the second and third holes. But she faltered with a triple on the seventh hole and just could not recover to return a bad card of 84 for a total score of 241. Young Preetinder Kaur played a good game today and brought in a five-over card of 77.

Madhu Brar returned the best gross score of 273 to clinch the Bawa Gill Trophy. She also won the Lady Governor's Cup in the gross score.

With the main competition over it will be a mixed doubles fun golf tomorrow.

HVPN thrashes UP Power in hockey

Chandigarh, March 23
The Haryana Vidyut Parsaran Nigam (HVPN) thrashed UP Power Sector by 5-2 in the 32nd All-India Electricity Hockey Tournament, started at the Hockey Stadium, Sector 42, here today.

In the second match Bhakra Beas Management Board team got the better of Andhra Pradesh Genco 3-0. Gurkirpal Singh of the BBMB scored two goals whereas Ravi Kumar hit the other one for the winning team. The tournament is being organised by the BBMB. It will be played on League-cum-knockout basis.

Ten teams from all over the country are participating. It was inaugurated by Er Sharat C. Mahajan, member Power, BBMB.

Sportspersons honoured

As many as 163 outstanding sportspersons were honoured for their distinguished performances in the inter-university tournaments and inter-colleges tournaments at Panjab University campus annual sports prize distribution function here today.

Track suits were given to these sportspersons. Campus colours were also awarded to 108 sportspersons during the function.

The students, who won positions in the open championships, inter-department and inter- hostel tournaments, were also honoured.

Mr Chander Shekhar, IPS, Additional Director General of Police (Punjab), presided over the function and gave away the prizes to the winners.

New UT sports secretaries

Chandigarh, March 23
Jarnail Singh Basota and Indra Beniwal are the new sports secretaries of the boys' and girls' sections of the UT Inter-School Sports Tournament Committee, Chandigarh, for the 2006-07 term.

Indra Beniwal, Principal, Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 10, has replaced Suman Sharma, Principal, GMSSS-37, while Jarnail Singh Basota, Principal, GMSSS-47, has replaced Ram Kumar, Principal, GMSSS-16, for the post. — TNS

SDOs reverted

Panchkula, March 23
Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) today reverted five Subdivisional Officers as Junior Engineers after it was found that the college from where they had acquired their degrees was not recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

The SDOs—Mr Ram Singh, Mr Chandi Ram, Mr Kanwar Pal, Mr Ravinder Singh and Mr Mir Singh—had completed their degrees from the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (India), Mumbai.

The HUDA had recently received information that this institute was not recognised by the AICTE and ordered their reversion. While Mr Ram Singh is presently posted at Panchkula, Mr Kanwar Pal and Mr Ravinder Singh are at Faridabad. Mr Mir Singh is at Kurukshetra.

Mr Mir Singh was promoted as SDO in 2000 and the others were promoted in 1999. All these years they remained posted as SDOs after a preliminary verification by HUDA.

Additional charge for SP (Operations)

The Chandigarh Administration has given the charge of Inspector-General of Prisons, UT, to Mr Dinesh Bhatt, SP (Operations), in addition to his present duties. A press release said here today that the charge had been given to Mr Bhatt because of repatriation of Mr Amitabh Singh Dillon to his parent state of Haryana.
