Giving details, he informed that the aim was to ensure that the child was able to join the
mainstream, the formal system of schooling. These children were being provided with free education at these special schools in the city. He said these schools had been started to ensure that child labourers were not denied their right to education, and were given opportunity for developing personality, talent , mental and physical abilities and were protected from abuse and
neglect. He said children were the asset of any country. If their growth was affected , the country as a whole would be the loser. He cautioned that societies with a large number of working children would produce more and more illiterate citizens, devoid of skills. This would adversely affected national development. He
said stipend of Rs 100 per child per month was being disbursed every month and free meals were also being provided in schools. He said vocational training was being imparted in cutting and tailoring, flower making, painting etc which could help the students in self- employment. Parents of these children were also given vocational training with the help of various schemes under SHGs and SSA so that they could start work on their own instead of sending their wards to labour. He said the functioning of child labour projects were being monitored and reviewed by the project director and field officers.
