City gets Rs 1,030.66 cr

Although the total outlay for Chandigarh in 2006-07 has been marginally raised to Rs 1,030.66 crore, the city beautiful will be on the fast track of development with the Centre proposing Delhi-Chandigarh Expressway, which will reduce the travel time to less than three hours.

T his is with reference to the news published in Chandigarh Tribune under the title 'Manimajra dwellers in a fix". I am thankful to The Tribune for raising this hanging issue to wake up the higher authorities after a long sleep. We are harassed since a year. I have been running from pillar to post since the last one year to get my house regularised but nothing has been sorted out till date even after giving several written requests to the Additional Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh.

Boards are here, 12000 city students ready
Chandigarh, February 28
Around 12,000 students will take the CBSE exams for Class X and Class XII across 35 centres in the city this year. The exams begin tomorrow for the Class XII students, while the Class X exams will begin on March 2. Around 1.75 lakh students in the region will be taking the exam this year. The maximum numbers of centres this year have been made in Haryana (112), while in Punjab there are 94 centres. Jammu and Kashmir has the least numbers of centres (29).

The Regional Institute of English (RIE), Sector 32 here organised a valedictory function for teacher trainees in the teaching of English course today. Forty-eight teachers from J and K, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Chandigarh were trained during the three-month course.

Hip surgery performed on 110-yr-old
Chandigarh, February 28

A Panchkula-based orthopedic surgeon, Dr Pardeep Aggarwal, has achieved a milestone by performing a complex surgery to treat hip fracture (intertrochanteric) on a 110-yr-old man, Lauka Din, hailing from Kalyana village in Bilaspur (HP). The patient’s age compounded by a heart ailment made the case complicated to handle. The patient had sustained serious fracture after a fall.

Private security to man entry gates at PCA stadium

Bhardwaj opposes foreign coaches

"It's not that we lack the killer instinct or the will to win matches and medals for the country, the problem was somewhere with the administrative system or policies for which we have to pay a heavy price. It was either the leadership of coaches or self-motivation of individuals and lack of proper command which can be held responsible for the dismal results in boxing," said O.P. Bhardwaj, first recipient of Dronacharya Award 1985 for training boxers after putting in 30 years of service in this sport.

The Chandigarh Administration is unlikely to give extension to the schools running from residential quarters in the city. Although no decision was taken at a meeting of the administration today, the deliberations hinted at the administration closing down the schools running from residential areas.
