Phagwara
Youth arrested
: The Phagwara police has arrested a youth, Vinod Kumar, a resident of Palahi Gate, following a recovery of 13 kg of poppy husk from his possession. He was arrested near Maheru village here on Tuesday. Giving this information, ASP Sukhchain Singh Gill, told media persons that a case under the NDPS Act had been registered against him.

Man run over by train: A man was run over by a train near Mauli village railway crossing on Monday night, railway sources said. The deceased, who seemed to be around 50, was yet to be identified. The railway police has sent his body to the local Civil Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Trains restored: The Railways on Tuesday restored four passenger trains, out of total eight trains that were cancelled on February 11, to provide extra coaches for special trains to facilitate the candidates appeared for the examinations of the Railway Recruitment Board.

Vet training concludes
: A 21-day training course on animal practice concluded on the premises of Haryana Agricultural University (HAU) here. Dr P.C. Verma, Dean, College of Veterinary sciences, was the chief guest. The programme was jointly organised by the Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine, HAU, and the Department of Animal Husbandry, Haryana.

Sonepat
Children discharged
: Fifteen children, who had fallen ill after consuming some seeds at Jasrana village in this district, were discharged from a private hospital at Farmana village, about 15 km from here, on Tuesday. Sonia, Mohit and Sachin are still in the hospital.

Phone link restored: Telephone link to Sonepat city, district headquarters, was restored around 10 p.m. last night. The city phone lines had remain dead for three hours. Official sources said the telephone cables got snapped at Kaithal, which led to the problem.

Watchmen hold procession: A large number of rural watchmen took out a procession here on Tuesday to press the authorities concerned to fulfil their demand for hike in their salaries. It was organised by the district unit of the Haryana Gramin Chowkidar Sabha, affiliated with the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) and was led by Mr Howa Singh, vice-president of the state committee of CITU.

Remanded: Jai Kunwar and Jagdish, both brothers and owners of J.K. Mishthan Bhandar, Kharkhauda, who were wanted by the police in connection with the alleged kidnapping and murder of Mukesh and Kuldeep of Murthal village, surrendered before the Judicial Magistrate Ms Rajni Yadav, here on Monday. They were remanded in judicial custody.

House burgled: Thieves reportedly broke into a house in Sector 15 here on Monday and decamped with gold ornaments worth about Rs 40,000 and Rs 700 in cash. The owner of the house, Dr Satpal Dalal, has lodged a complaint with the police in this connection.
