500 examined at dental checkup camp

Mandi Ahmedgarh, February 14
More than 500 persons were examined at a free dental check up camp organised by Hargobindpur and local units of the Bharat Vikas Parishad at Aryan Dental Hospital here.

A team of doctors headed by Dr Vikas Hind examined patients for various ailments and provided free medicine. Each of the patients examined at the camp was given a documented summary of dental health.

Addressing the gathering, the dental experts discussed at length the dietary habits, importance of oral hygiene and precaution and care of various kinds of dental problems. Dr Meera Raj in her lecture on dental awareness, stressed on the need for periodic dental check-up.

She said “crooked teeth” (malocclusion) was the most common dental problem among the teenagers. The condition led to irregularities in growth and shape which could be corrected by a dental specialist if detected in time. Left untreated, it could lead to permanent deformities.

Dr Vikas Hind spoke about the genesis of gastroenteritis problems due to poor oral hygiene. He also spoke about gum problems and cavities which afflicted a large number of children.

The camp was inaugurated by Mr Rajinder Singh Kanjhala, district president, SAD, and Mr Manpreet Ayali, general secretary youth wing.

Mr Jatinder Bhola, president Municipal Council, Mr Raj Pal Garg and Grewal presidents of branches of the parishad were felicitated on the occasion.

Sports festival at Gill ends

Ludhiana, February 14
The Dashmesh Academy beat Harjit Friends Club of Moga 32-27 to win the Mata Gujri Gold Cup in kabaddi (all open) at the annual sports festival organised by the Golden Youth Club at Gill village near here, on Monday. The winners also got a cash prize of Rs 51,000.

In kabaddi, Rangian prevailed over Dhatt 19-17 to bag the title while in football (open), Jassowal Club blanked Golden Youth Club, (Gill) 2-0 to lift the trophy. Mr Rajinder Singh, IG, Bathinda Police Range, presided over the concluding function.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Singh announced that a hockey academy would be instituted at Gill village. The Punjab Police in association with the Rural Sports Clubs, would try to promote the game of hockey at grassroots level, Mr Singh added.

Khanna: Preparations for the Nirmal Nimma International Kabbadi Tournament scheduled to be held on 16 February at Khanna, have been completed. This was stated here today by the Club chairman Bhalinder Singh and president Satinder Pal Singh Goldie.

Goldie said the attraction of the tournament would be a match between American and Indian girls. Game lovers have come from Canada and other countries, he added.
