Trained teachers for challenged kids Mandi Ahmedgarh, February 14 He motivates parents to send their wards to school. He insisted that they should bring their challenged wards to a camp scheduled to take place at Government Elementary School Amarpura, on February 20, when specialists in the field would be there to guide these children. Talking to the Ludhiana Tribune at the local Sanatan Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School Mr Kumar, a native of Haryana, claimed that the guardians of the physically and mentally challenged children had shown interest in sending their wards to Sarav Sikhya Abhyan Centers being run by the Education Department. He said the state government acting under directions of the union government had achieved desired results in improving the standard of living of these children. “Though it is difficult for a common man to make physically or mentally challenged children understand the fundamentals of education, teachers having diploma or degree in special education can train them easily,” justified Mr Kumar. He claimed that a large number of students, who hold certain inabilities had been inspired by special teachers. He cited many examples where even deaf and dumb students were educated by special teachers to behave as Normal children. Mr Kumar disclosed that specialists, including orthodontists, psychiatrists, ENT specialists and ophthalmologists would be available on the day of the camp to solve the problems of these children. |
Awareness camp at GCW Ludhiana, February 14 The camp began with the inaugural session where the chief guest, Ms Mridula Jain, addressed the students. Apart from introduction on the role of women entrepreneurs in the development of Punjab, students interacted with the guests. In the second session, the students were addressed by Ms Poonam Bindra, Mr B.S.Dhillon, Mr Naresh Bishnoi and principal Hari Singh. On the second day, the students were told about marketing and survey techniques. The speakers were Dr Sandeep Kapoor, Prof Gagandeep K.Banga, Prof Kanwaljit Singh, Dr G.S.Podda, Mr A.K.Bansal and Mr Vishwa Bandhu. The day began with encouraging interviews with Ms Rippi Chatwal, Ms Sonu Gandhi and Ms Poonam Aggarwal. Certificates were distributed among 55 students who attended the camp. The principal expressed her gratitude towards the STEP authorities for having encouraged her students at this turn of their professional life.The camp concluded with a vote of thanks. |
10-year RI for raping infant Ludhiana, February 14 The orders were pronounced by Mr Hardial Singh, presiding officer of the fast-track court, Ludhiana. The court declined the leniency plea by the accused. The accused had pleaded that he was a poor man and had three childrens. The accused was booked under Sections 363 and 377 of the IPC at the Dakha police station following the complaint of Amrika Devi, mother of the victim, on May 29, 2004. The complainant had submitted to the police that the accused was their neighbour. On the fateful day, her two sons and the victim were playing on a cot in the courtyard of her house. When she returned after taking bath the child was not there. They started searching for her. When they reached the house of Santokh Singh, where the accused was residing as tenant, they caught the convict in the act. The matter was reported to the police, who nabbed the accused and sent him behind bars. However, during the trial the accused pleaded innocence. He said he had a dispute with the husband of the complainant and that was why he had been falsely implicated. But on the statement of witness and medical evidence, the court found him guilty. |
