We can hit back: Dravid
Peshawar, February 5 Seeking to put up a bold face, the Indian captain said there was no “extra pressure” on his team to perform well in one-dayers in the wake of the defeat in the Test series. “We are under no extra pressure. It’s the normal pressure or anxiety to perform well which is good. We know Pakistan’s recent performance against us (eight wins in 10 matches) has been good. But statistics don’t count much as in one-day cricket the team that performs well on that day will win,” Dravid said at a press conference. Meanwhile, off-spinner Harbhajan Singh is a doubtful starter for the first one-dayer due to an injury to his bowling finger. “Harbhajan was unlucky to get hit on the forefinger of his right hand yesterday. That’s the finger he uses to spin the ball. We are hopeful it will become better by tomorrow. But if he is not fit, he will not play as we have lot of cricket ahead of us,” Dravid said. The Indian captain said Sachin Tendulkar, who has triggered off a debate following his recent form slump, would definitely bounce back in the one-day series. Dravid said Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag had done well in opening the innings and the ploy would be continued though the team had the other option of using Gautam Gambhir in the slot. The Indian team had opted for an open practice session today, simulating a match situation and Dravid said this was done to allow the players to get a close feel of match conditions. Dravid was also in favour of the super sub being named after the toss instead of before it, a view supported by his Pakistani counterpart Inzamam-ul-Haq. “It would be better if the super sub is named after the toss. But anyway the ICC would ask for our views after the 10-month period of experimentation”. But Dravid said he was not in favour of using an all-rounder as a super sub, preferring to use such a player in the first XI itself. Asked about the four additions to the squad — Mohammad Kaif, Suresh Raina, S. Sreesanth and Murali Kartik — Dravid said they were coming after playing in domestic cricket and were match fit. Pak have the edge, says Inzamam
A fit-again Inzamam-ul Haq today declared his side would have the edge going into the one-dayers against India following their confidence-boosting win in the Test series. “One-day cricket is a different ball game but the boys are confident. We have a slight edge,” said the Pakistan captain after his team’s practice session. Inzamam, who missed the deciding Test at Karachi because of the recurrence of a back problem, also stated that he was completely fit now. Inzamam hinted that wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal would open the innings. Teams (from): India:
Rahul Dravid (capt), Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Mohammad Kaif, Suresh Raina, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (wk), Irfan Pathan, Ajit Agarkar, Harbhajan Singh, Murali Kartik, Zaheer Khan, Rudra Pratap Singh and S. Sreesanth. Pakistan:
Inzamam-ul-Haq (capt), Younis Khan, Salman Butt, Shoaib Malik, Imran Farhat, Mohammad Yousuf, Faisal Iqbal, Kamran Akmal (wk), Shahid Afridi, Abdul Razzaq, Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad Asif, Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, Yasir Arafat, Umar Gul and Arshad Khan.

Woods wins, Jyoti tied 13th
Dubai, February 5 With three birdies and two bogeys, Randhawa carded a one-under 71 that saw him finish at 12-under 276 and in tied 13th place. Woods turned in even par with one each of birdie and bogey and struggled with the driver. The World No.1 needed birdies on the last two holes to get into the play-off. A clutch player that he is, he achieved that and then won the playoff with a par, as Els went into the water and then missed his par putt. Woods has now won on both his starts in 2006. Randhawa, who had earlier finished sixth in Abu Dhabi but then pulled out in the final round of the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters had a decent sojourn of West Asia. The former Asian Tour number one played excellently from tee to green, but then had a lot of trouble as he took 32 putts to finish the round.

‘Acid test’ for campers today?
Patiala, February 5 The team, which arrived at the NIS on Friday evening, had sent the campers, particularly athletes, weightlifters and boxers, scurrying for cover. The Regional Director of the NIS, Mr L. Ranawat, said the NIS authorities had no information about the whereabouts of the team, although, according to unconfirmed reports, the delegation had left for Chandigarh yesterday and will be returning to the NIS on Monday. Mr Ranawat said the team, whenever it comes, does not have to seek the permission of the NIS authorities to make a check on the athletes. The campers had a day off today and when activity resumes tomorrow they may be asked to provide urine samples for dope testing. A senior functionary confirmed that like the athletes, some weightlifters too had gone into virtual hibernation yesterday when the team landed at the hostels to collect the samples. Prominent among the women lifters who are attending the camp here and who have been found to be on dope in international competitions in the past are Kunja Rani Devi (48 kg), W. Nandini Devi (53 kg) and P. Selja (75 kg). All these three lifters are back in the camp after having served their quota of suspensions. However, the names of lifters, in both the men’s and women’s sections, whose samples had been collected by the team yesterday, could not be confirmed. Sources reveal that the team, which included WADA’s nominee to India, Mr Majid from Kolkata, had come armed to the NIS with a list of 12 athletes whom they suspect of being
