Over 300 patients examined

Ludhiana, February 5
More than 300 patients were examined and medicines distributed free of cost among them at a medical camp organised by Shri Mahavir Jain Yuvak Sangh at Lord Mahavira Homeopathic Medical College and Hospital here today.

A team of eye surgeons, dental surgeons gynecologists and those from radiology and medicine conducted medical check up of patients and rendered follow up advice.

Facility of diagnostic tests like X-ray and ultrasound scan were also provided to the patients.

Meanwhile, Dr D.N. Kotnis Health and Education Centre will organise a free medical check up camp at Dr D.N. Kotnis Acupuncture Hospital here on February 8.

According to Dr Inderjit Singh, medical superintendent of the institution, the camp would specially focus on the patients suffering from back pain, disc problem, spinal injury, traumatic paraplegia, cervical and lumbar spondilitis and sciatica.

Dr T. Kalra, a noted acupuncturist, will be available for consultation and treatment at the camp.

Sports meet of AS College ends

Khanna, February 5
The 54th two-day sports meet of AS College concluded with the prize distribution ceremony here today. Ms Harbans Kaur Dullo, Parliamentary Secretary, was the chief guest on the concluding day while Dr R.S. Jhanji, Principal of the college, welcomed the guests.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms Dullo said the students should actively take part in sports activities. She also announced a grant of Rs 1 lakh from his discretionary fund.

The results are: Talwinder Singh of BA III and Simi Batta of PGDCA were declared the best athletes. In 100 m race, Amandeep Singh of BA II got the first position, Jasbir Singh BA I second and Amarinder Singh of BA I secured the third position.

Hammer throw: Jarnail Singh BA III bagged the first position, Karun Sharma BA III second and Gurpreet Singh BA II bagged the third position; 3000 m race: Talwinder Singh 1, Avtar Singh 2, Parlad Singh 3; Short put (girls): Simmi 1, Gurvir Kaur 2 and Simran 3; Back race: Lakhvir Singh 1, Yuvraj Singh 2, and Varinder Singh 3; 3000 m walk: Talwinder Singh 1, Tarnvir Singh 2, Teetu 3; Obstacle race: Nidhi 1, Simran 2, Neetika 3.

The tug war competition was won by BA III team defeating the team of BA II. The college students also organised a cultural programme.

Mr Yoginder Sharma, president of the college management, Mr Sanjiv Dhamija, secretary, Mr Ashwani Bansal, vice-president, Mr Jatinder Devgan, secretary of the AS College for Women, Mr Rakesh Goel, Mr Vikas Mehta, Mr Parmjit Pammi, Mr Som Nath Latawa, Mr Pardeep Vij, all members of the college management, Ms Urmila Sahnewalia and Mr Bhupinder Kaur, both Councillors, Mr Balraj Bhandari, Ms Rekha Bhardwaj, Mr Suresh Tandon, Mr Narinder Singh, Mr D.D. Verma, Mr Ashok Vij and Mr Dewan Chand Vij were among those present on the occasion.

Athletics meet at Green Grove school

The VIIth annual athletics meet of Green Grove Public School began at the school campus on Sunday. Mr Naunihal Singh, SSP, Khanna, presided over the meet. School Principal S. George and the members of the school managing committee welcomed the guest. The Principal in her welcome address said sports helped build character and they were an integral part of the school curriculum. After a march past, the chief guest hoisted the school flag and declared the meet open. The letting off of balloons by primary class students and the lighting of torch by the head boy of the school, Jaspreet Singh, marked the opening of the ceremony.

Winners of various events:

Best athlete - Jaspreet (Tilak House), Komalpreet (Tagore House); football champions (Tilak House); Kho-Kho-Tilak House; Cock house - Ashoka House; 100 metres race (boys) - Irmandeep I, Jaspreet II, and Jasmeen III. 100 metres race (girls) — Rajdeep I, Harmeet II, Rozy III. Tri-cycle race-Gurnoor Kaur I, Tanjot Kaur II, Sahilpreet Singh III. Frog race-Paramvir I, Gurjot Singh II, Omrai Singh III.

LIC athletics meet on Feb 10, 11

Ludhiana, February 5
Around 125 athletes (men and women) from seven zones across the country are expected to take part in the 39th Life Insurance Corporation of India All India Athletics Meet to be organised by the Ludhiana division of the LIC of India at Guru Nanak Stadium here on February 10 and 11.

According to Mr D R Bhagat, Senior Divisional Manager, LIC, Ludhiana, during this two-day meet, competition in 32 events, including shot put, high jump, long jump, javeling throw, triple jump, discus throw, hammer throw and track races, will be held. Gurmeet Kaur,a national record holder in javelin throw, Arjuna awardee and international Sunil Goswami and shot putter of international repute Amul Tyagi will be among the participants who will vie for top honours.

Mr D K Malhotra, Managing Director, LIC of India will inaugurate the meet on Friday at 10 am while Mr A K Shukla, Chairman, LIC of India, will be the chief guest on the concluding day.

Meanwhile, the 77th annual meeting of the Sports Promotion Board of the LIC of India will be conduted here on February 12 during which the calendar for the ensuing season apart from other important issues would be discussed and finalised, Mr Bhagat said.

4 city players in veterans TT squad

Ludhiana, February 5
Harminder Singh Chhattwal of Ludhiana has been named captain of the Punjab veteran’s table tennis team announced for the forthcoming 13th National Master’s Table Tennis Championship to be held from February 8 to 12 in Hyderabad.

Besides, Harminder, other paddlers from the city are Sanjeev Thapar, Sanjeev Sharma and Ashish Thapar. Other members of the squad are Pankaj Sharma, Ajay Kumar and Gagan Bahri, all from Jalandhar, Jitender Kishore from Patiala and Yashpal Bajaj. Mr Prem Choudhary will accompany the team as coach-cum- manager.
