70 booked in land dispute

The Dehlon police has booked at least 70 persons under Sections 447, 427 and 149 for allegedly attempting to take forcible possession of common land belonging to more than 24 Dalit residents of Dehlon village.

Employees of various government departments and industry workers today protested against the reduction in Employees Provident Fund interest rate to 8.5 per cent. On a call given by the Centre of Indian Trade Unions, workers from cycle, brick-kiln, hosiery and other industries and from several government departments held a dharna outside the Provident Fund office here today.

Sarpanch booked for bid to murder
Khanna, December 20
The Khanna police has booked four persons on the charge of attempt to murder, including the Sarpanch of Rasulra Majri village. According to the police, Mr Hardeep Singh, brother of Mr Surinder Singh, had lodged a complaint at the Sadar police station, Khanna, that his brother was going to Khanna when Maninder Singh, sarpanch of Rasulra, Jagtar Singh and two other persons, attacked his brother with swords and injured him badly.

Govt waives loan recovery from small-scale units
Ludhiana, December 20
The Punjab Government has waived the recovery of the interest against such small scale industrial units and other beneficiaries who have availed loan under the seed margin money, Punjab State Aid to the Industrial Act, 1935 and the Integrated Rural Development Programmes provided they deposited the entire balance of principal amount of loan in installment before December 26, 2005 .

Students of the Guru Nanak Institute of Management & Technology, Gujarkhan campus, are once again in the limelight for their stupendous achievements in academics. Magic of their hands enriches others

The industrial hub seems to have become a lucrative place for thousands of migrant artisans from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, who, with their intricate embroidery, woo the elite clientele here. But the magic of their hands actually enriches the boutique owners in the city. The artisans, settled here for several years now have been working at places like Kundanpuri, Deep Nagar, Model Town extension, Madhopuri, Ghumar Mandi, Sunet village etc. Majority of them are Muslims, whose generations are into this kashidakari work. “We get orders from boutiques.

55 units of blood collected at DMCH camp
Ludhiana, December 20
A blood donation camp was organized by Swami Ganga Nand Bhuri Wale International Foundation in collaboration with the Department of Transfusion Medicine of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital at Talwandi Khurd village in this district yesterday and 55 units of blood were collected.

Govt to set up AIDS testing centres

The Punjab Government has finalised a plan to set up AIDS/HIV testing centres at Amritsar and Jalandhar in the near future and Ludhiana will also have such a centre very shortly.
