Govt staff protest against reduction in EPF rates
Ludhiana, December 20
Employees of various government departments and industry workers today protested against the reduction in Employees Provident Fund interest rate to 8.5 per cent.
On a call given by the Centre of Indian Trade Unions, workers from cycle, brick-kiln, hosiery and other industries and from several government departments held a dharna outside the Provident Fund office here today.

Tax evasion unabated in city

In the wake of ambitious revenue collection targets fixed for the department of Income Tax for the current financial year, the top brass of the department kept themselves busy in devising ways and means to step up the collections while the members of trade and industry, as well as from other affluent sections of society, continued to elude the tax collectors’ net.
