Fest for UGC-NET aspirants

Chandigarh, November 18
The Aryans Educational and Charitable Trust organised a UGC-NET fest at the Gandhi Samarak Bhavan in Sector 16 here today. More than 400 students participated in the fest. An exhibition of books for this examination was the main attraction of the fest.

The students were apprised of the syllabus and pattern of the examination and study material was also distributed free of cost. The students also get an opportunity to meet various subject experts at the fest.

While speaking on the occasion, Prof D.C. Kataria said the NET exam was becoming tough like the civil services exam. So one should prepare with devotion to achieve success and the best time to start preparation was during postgraduate studies only. The success rate of this examination is just 4-5 percent because most of the students take it in a casual manner.

Discussing the problems of science students, Prof. Kataria said paper-I was the toughest part of the examination and it required special attention.

UGC-NET will be conducted on December 31 at 65 centres in 77 subjects while UGC-CSIR joint test will be conducted on December.

GGSC eves win PU relay races

Chandigarh, November 18
DAV College, Chandigarh, and Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Chandigarh, won the Panjab University Inter-College Relay races with 50 points each under men’s and women’s category, respectively. The event was held at PU grounds, here, today.

In the men’s category, SGGS College, Chandigarh, SGGS Khalsa College, Mahilpur, and GGDSD College, Hariana, got second, third and fourth positions with 20, 20 and 14 points, respectively.

In women’s group, MCM DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, Panjab University Campus, Chandigarh, and AS College for Women, Khanna, bagged second, third and fourth positions with 26, 12 and 10 points, respectively.

In the event of 5 km walk, Rajwinder Kaur of GGS College for Women, Chandigarh, came first (29:35.24 min) while Navpreet Kaur of Ramgarhia Girls College, Ludhiana, Seema Rani of GNN College, Doraha, came second and third with timing of 31:44.33 and 35:00.13 minutes, respectively.

St Stephen’s lift ICSE trophy

Chandigarh, November 18
St Stephen’s, Sector 45, lifted the ICSE Football Trophy by registering a thumping victory over St Kabir Public School, Sector 26, scores being 8-0, during the final of the ICSE football tournament, Chandigarh region, held at St Stephen’s ground, here, today.

St Stephen’s who looked aggressive since the start of the play took an early lead in 5 th minute when Sukhdeep made no mistake in dispatching the ball into the net. Prompt came Raoul during the 7 th minute who fired a powerful shot which brooked no denial from St Kabir’s defence.

Maintaining the same dominating pressures over their rivals, St Stephen’s lads continued making strategic moves and now it was the turn of Palmei who scored through a powerful hit in the 10 th minute.

St Kabir made a couple of good passes but the Stephen guys proved to be tough for them and Stephen’s Pamei netted the ball again in 20 th minute of the play.

MCM kick St Stephen’s out of soccer tourney

Chandigarh, November 18
Striker Jasdeep was the star performer when MCM DAV Club, Sector 36, carved out an easy 4-0 win against St Stephen’s ‘B’, Sector 45, in Group A league outing of the Chandigarh Senior Girls Football Championship for Deepak Kapania Memorial Trophy, being conducted by Chandigarh Football Association, at the Sector 17 football stadium, here today.

MCM Club could have won by a bigger margin had they capitalised on all the chances that came their way.

Jasdeep wasted two good chances to score in first three minutes. She looked in a hurry twice but on both occasions, she shot straight into the hands of St Stephen’s B goalkeeper.
