PEDA to produce power from agriculture waste
Six projects allocated to private companies

In a significant development which could enable the Punjab Government to overcome the acute shortage of electricity, the Punjab Energy Development Agency has allocated six projects to private companies to produce 66 MW of power from biomass (agriculture waste).

Withdraw passports of Jagat, Raninder: Sukhbir

Former Union Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal General Secretary Sukhbir Singh Badal today asked the Union Government to immediately withdraw the passports of the key accused in the food-for-oil scam, including those of Natwar Singh’s son Jagat Singh and Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh’s son Raninder Singh and his relative, Andaldeeb D. Sehgal.

Juvenile jail inmates unaware of Children’s Day
Faridkot, November 14
While kids across the country celebrated Children's Day, for 30 inmates of local juvenile jail, who all are unaware of the day's importance, it was just another day. At present, the juvenile jail has 30 inmates, including six from Pakistan. Leave alone the day's significance, none of them knew about Children's Day. Makhan Singh, an inmate, said, "We don't know that today is Children's Day nor anybody told us.

New machine to manage paddy straw
Mohali, November 14
Much to the Agriculture Department's helplessness, paddy stubble continues to be burnt unabated across the state in preparation of fields for the sowing of wheat. All hopes are now pinned on a new machine designed by Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, to manage the left-over paddy straw following combined harvesting of rice fields.
