Forest Dept objects to Nayagaon NAC
Says area “locked” under the Forest Act

Mohali, November 11
In a major setback to the Punjab Government’s move to declare Nayagaon and nearby areas as a notified area committee, the Department of Forests, Punjab, has objected to the move on account of the fact that most of the area of the proposed NAC is “locked” under the provisions of the Punjab Land Preservation Act, 1900, and the Forest Conservation Act, 1980.

Even before Sunita utters a single word, her eyes, saturated with grief and agony, narrate the woeful tale of struggle and anguish. Sunita claims she was
four-month pregnant when her husband abandoned her. The reason: He came to know that she was going to give birth to their fourth daughter.

Electronic goods worth Rs 15 lakh were stolen from a Sony showroom here in Sector 11 last night. Camcorders, digital cameras and mobile handsets were stolen from the shop as well as from the strongroom, located in the basement.

No headway in child rape case
Chandigarh, November 11
The police remains clueless about the identity of the man who allegedly raped an eight-year-old-girl last evening. Sources in the police said the grandmother of the victim, a resident of Jagatpura village, had alleged in her complaint that her granddaughter was raped by an unidentified man.

Woman ends life
Chandigarh, November 11
A 25-year-old married woman allegedly ended her life this evening by setting herself ablaze after pouring kerosene at her Sector 29 residence.

Revolver stolen from car
Mohali, November 11
A revolver was stolen from a car parked in the market of Phase II here today. According to the police, Rupinder Singh, a resident of Sector 70, complained that he had gone to the market after parking the vehicle nearby.

Govt approves allocation to PU pension fund

The issue of pension will no longer be a source of tension at the meeting of the Board of Finance, Panjab University, scheduled for November 16 with the government having given its approval to the allocation of Rs 10 crore per annum to the Panjab University pension fund from this session.

Girl’s disappearance case: DGP asked to constitute SIT

Chandigarh, November 11
Mr Justice Surya Kant of the Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the DGP (Crime), Punjab, to constitute a special investigation team headed by an officer not below the rank of SP to investigate the alleged act of disappearance of a young girl.

Delightful Bharatnatyam spell by Pallavi Saran
Influence of celebrated danseuse Sonal Man Singh was perceptible in the scintillating spell of Bharatnatyam recital by her foremost disciple Pallavi Saran Mathur on the 103rd Baithak programme of the Pracheen Kala Kendra here this evening. Pallavi began her performance with invocatory ‘Pushpanjali’, depicting the adoration of lord Ganesha and laudation for Lord Kartikeya. She incorporated excerpts from various epics in the composition that gave her enough scope to display her skills in ‘abhinaya’.
