Teachers not paid salaries
: Agitating teachers and other staff members of more than a century-old P.B.N School have been protesting for the past one week to get their salary released. The teachers said they had not received their pay for the past five months. They said it was adversely affecting the study of students as well.

2 die in mishap
: Two persons, Sodhi Ram of Dhadha village and Gurinder Kaur of Mannahana village were killed and five persons, Amrik Singh, Shingara Singh, Sohan Singh, Amrinder Singh and Jaspreet, were injured when their Tata Qualis collided with a tractor at Kataria village on Saturday.

Seminar
: Lieut-Gen Balbir Singh, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command, said here on Saturday to fight natural disaster threats, a sharper and focussed coordination between the civil and military authorities was called for. He was here to inaugurate a seminar on “Natural disaster management”. Senior Army officers, including Brig Har Iqbal Singh, Commandant, Military Hospital, here and senior doctors also participated.

Gurpurb: The birthday of Guru Nanak Dev will be celebrated at Akal Academy, Dhindsa, 5 km from here on November 7. The annual athletic meet’ will be inaugurated by Mr Jatinder Singh Dharia DSP, on November 6. Prizes will be distributed by Mr Naunihal Singh, SSP, Khanna on November 7, according to the Principal of Akal Academy. 

Tributes: Tributes were paid to Savitri Devi, mother of Mr Pawan Gupta, former president of the local unit of the BJP Shahi Palace here on Saturday. Mr Amrik Singh Dhillon, local MLA, and Jathedar Kirpal Singh Kheernian, member, SGPC, spoke about Savitri Devi and her works.

CHANDIGARH

BEREAVED: Mr Mam Chand Sharma, father of Mr J.N. Shastri, vice-president of the Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee, died at Karnal after brief illness on Friday night. Mr Sharma (87) was a renowned astrologer. He is survived by four sons and a daughter.

FORMS: UGC-NET aspirants can deposit application forms for December test on Sunday at Panjab University. Monday is the last date for the submission of the forms.

Rewari
5 arrested
: The Kausala police arrested five persons, Jagbir and Ramesh of Jind district, Joginder Chauhan of Azamgarh district in Uttar Pradesh, Satnam Singh of Sangrur district and Bittoo Singh of Patiala district of Punjab, from different places adjoining the Delhi-Jaipur highway, near here, on Friday. The police seized a total of 94 kg of poppy husk from them. Cases under the NDPS Act have been registered against them.

Ex minister bereaved: Mr Prabhati Lal, father of a former minister, Dr M.L. Ranga, died in the Civil Hospital here on Friday. He had been admitted to the hospital after he complained of breathlessness. He was 84. Dr Mahavir Prasad, Union Minister for Small-Scale Agro and Rural Industries, placed a wreath on his pyre at Dhaliaki village, near here. Besides former minister Jagdish Yadav, former legislator Rambir Singh, Deputy Commissioner Mahender Kumar and a host of other prominent citizens, the funeral was attended by a large number of INLD activists.

2 road mishaps
: Three persons were seriously injured in two different road accidents near the town on Saturday. Preetam and Mithan, both local residents, were going towards Bhattu Kalan in a canter, when their vehicle collided with a tractor-trolley coming from the opposite direction. Both were injured seriously in the accident. They were brought to the local General Hospital but referred to Hisar in view of their serious condition. In another accident, Makhan, a resident of Mor Mandi village in Punjab, was going to Mor Mandi in a canter, when the vehicle driver fell asleep and the vehicle collided with a tree. Makhan was seriously injured.

Body found: The Sadar police recovered the body of an unidentified aged woman from near the godowns on the Kakroi road here on Saturday and sent it for the postmortem examination. The police has registered a case of murder in this connection. The face of the deceased was burnt by suspects in a bid to prevent her identification.

Two injured: Two persons were seriously injured when their motor cycle got out of control on the Sonepat-Meerut inter-state road near Khewra village, about 13 km from here, on Saturday. According to a report, the injured persons were identified as Najim and Kaloo Hasan of Delhi. They were immediately hospitalised and stated to be out of danger.

Woman missing: A married woman has been missing from her house at Nasirpur Bangar village of this district since October 29. Her husband Ramesh Dahiya has lodged a complaint with the police in this connection. He suspected that his wife had been kidnapped by some youths of the village against whom he had long-standing enmity. The police is investigating into the case. 

Goods burnt: Household electronic goods with thousands of rupees were burnt when lightning fell on a house at Katwal village, about 50 km from here, on Friday night. However, no one was hurt in the mishap. 

Woman crushed: A woman was crushed to death by a tractor-trolley near Shamri village, about 45 km from here, on Sunday. The police has registered a case and sent the body for the postmortem.
