Dolly wins flower arrangement contest

Ludhiana, November 4
New Senior Secondary School organised a flower arrangement competition here today to celebrate the advent of winter season. The Deputy Director Principal, Mr H.C. Gupta, inaugurated the function. As many as 65 students took part in the competition, which was divided into two groups — group-based competition and individual competition.

The students had brought their own pots, artificial flowers, natural plants and flowers and other raw material to be used in the competition. Project directors of the competition were Navpreet Kaur and Simta Gupta.

Ms Sonia, Ms Radhika Sharma, Ms Rekha Bector and Ms Durba Ghosh acted as the judges. The results are: Dolly Nanda Ist, Shweta Khanna 2nd, Manpreet Bedi 3rd, Aditi Sood and Rabia Jinda won consolation prize.

Mr Gupta appreciated the work of the students and the coordinators and gave away the prizes to the winners and certificates of participation to all participants.

Dental camp at Spring Dale

Ludhiana, November 4
A free dental check up camp was organised at Spring Dale Senior Secondary School here today by a team of doctors under the supervision of Dr V.K. Kapila, head of the Department of Community Dentistry. The camp was aided by Indian Dental Association.

Free dental check up of students from Classes VII to XII was done and students were given a patient card summary of their diagnosis and free gift hampers containing toothpastes and tooth brushes. Dental information literature was also distributed among the students by the Indian Dental Association.

Students were also acquainted with healthy dietary habits, importance of oral hygiene, precaution and cure for various kinds of dental problems through a colourful exhibition of posters and charts. Dr Kapila in his dental awareness lecture stressed the need for periodical dental check up at least once in six months and stated that,” Crooked teeth is the most common dental problem in this age group (10-15 years) when milk teeth are falling and permanent teeth are erupting leading to irregularities in the growth and shape.

Eminent surgeons to attend oration at CMCH

Ludhiana, November 4
The Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) will organise the 23rd Dr L.H. Lobo Memorial Oration and a national CME ‘surgery update’ at the hospital auditorium here tomorrow.

Dr Navneet Chaudhry, Head of the Department of Surgery at CMCH and organising secretary of the programme, said that the oration and scientific symposium would be dedicated to the memory of Dr L.H. Lobo, an eminent orthopaedic surgeon and former Principal of Christian Medical College. The events would be jointly sponsored by the Department of Surgery and Dr L.H. Lobo Memorial Trust.

The oration on the topic ‘Making of a Surgeon’ would be delivered by Dr Tehemton E. Udwadia, Emeritus Professor of surgery, Grant Medical College and J.J. Hospital, Mumbai. The CME on ‘surgery update’ would follow immediately after the oration. Eminent national and international faculty with extensive experience in the field, including Dr Sewa Singh Lehga, Professor of clinical medicine, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston (USA), Dr Mike Keighly, Professor of Surgery, University of Birmingham (UK), Dr P.K. Chowbey, Chairman, Department of Minimally Invasive Surgery, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, Dr Aharsh Chaudhry, Senior Consultant, GI Surgery, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, and Dr Praksah Khanduri, Head of Surgery, St. Stephen’s Hospital, Delhi, would participate.
