Shoppers warned of unidentified objects

Within hours of bomb blasts in New Delhi, the Chandigarh police today sounded high alert. It beefed up the security in and around the crowded places in the city, including shopping complexes, railway station and the two inter-state bus stands in Sectors 17 and 43.

Power Grid officer ends life
Depression cited as reason

A Chief Manager of the Power Grid, Mr Anwar Salim, ended his life by hanging himself from a ceiling fan with a nylon rope at his Sector 22 residence this afternoon. He was reportedly suffering from depression and was undergoing treatment at a renowned hospital in Sector 34.

Kawasaki disease still baffles researchers

First described in 1967 by Dr Tomisako Kawasaki of Japan, the Kawasaki disease continues to baffle researchers across the world. Decades of research have not yielded information on its causative agents nor are any laboratory tests available for its diagnosis which rests only on recognition of a pattern of symptoms that appear one by one. No wonder the best of pediatricians end up misdiagnosing Kawasaki.

Lost money orders add to migrants’ woes

Complaints of money orders not being delivered in Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh are surfacing again. A number of city-based migrant labourers sent money to their native places through postal money orders.

Residents of Sector 40 are demanding an e-sampark centre. At present, Sector 40 is one of the most populous sectors amongst the southern sectors. Residents complain about lack of public utility services. Capt Amar Singh (Retd) , a resident of Kharar, has donated Rs 50,000 to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund in connection with the earthquake relief work in Kashmir. Capt Amar Singh spent nearly 40 years in the armed forces.

Firing incident at Chandigarh Club

Quarrel over a game of cards reportedly led to the firing of a bullet at the Chandigarh Club late last night. No one was fortunately injured in the incident. Taking a serious view of the matter, the Chandigarh Police has registered an attempt to murder case in the matter.

17-year-old girl killed in mishap
Chandigarh, October 29
A 17-year-old girl, Amiti, was killed and her friend, Swati, was seriously injured when their scooter was hit by an unidentified vehicle near Sector 16 petrol station this evening.

CAT’s order on medical facility for pensioners upheld
Chandigarh, October 29
A long fight by retired employees of the Central Government seeking full medical reimbursement has yielded results. A decision of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) to allow the retirees full medical reimbursement on the treatment from duly recognised hospitals has now been upheld by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
