Senior citizen walks to death in contest

Internal squabbles between various organisations representing the 1984 anti- Sikh riot victims, marred the process of filling forms by the victims at Phase XI gurdwara here today.

NCC cadet ‘molested’ by Army officer

A girl cadet attending an NCC camp here has alleged molestation by a senior Army officer within the camp precincts this morning. The matter was reported to higher authorities and a court of inquiry has been ordered by the Directorate General NCC, New Delhi, to ascertain the facts.

Captain’s mortal remains to be sent to Pune
Chandigarh, September 27
The mortal remains of Capt M.M. Bokil, who died in a bridge collapse over the Sutlej in Kinnaur district earlier this month, were received at the Command Hospital here today and are being sent to his home town, Pune, with full military honours.

Array of activities mark World Tourism Day

The Department of Tourism and the Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Development Corporation organised various events and activities to highlight the importance of tourism and its recognised human, social, economic and cultural values on the World Tourism Day today.

Blueprint on cinematic tourism presented

The Centre for Media and Entertainment Studies celebrated the World Tourism Day here today by presenting a strategic blueprint on cinematic tourism to the Chandigarh Administration and authorities of the northern states.

The Department of Tourism, Chandigarh Administration, organised various cultural events to mark the celebration of the World Tourism Day. A short play ‘Chandigarh ki Sair’ followed by a ‘Sham-e-Ghazal’ at the Sukhna lake and folk dances by Russian and Indian dancers at the Plaza remained the major cultural activities, besides many more programmes of fun and frolic.

Heritage train may miss date with Durga Puja

Admn to enforce no-work-no-pay rule for striking staff

Keeping in view a call of strike on September 29 by the UT Powermen Union, the Chandigarh Administration has decided to implement the principle of “no work no pay”, which will be strictly enforced. The employees have been advised to attend duty. The defaulting employees will be liable to disciplinary action.

During the Raj, the Army was treated as a holy cow and the media covered it only when its work was to be lauded. We continued with the same system until about the early 90s. It was then that the Army started becoming more open to the media.

Labourer ends life
Chandigarh, September 27
A 22-year-old labourer allegedly hanged himself to death from a tree near his residence at Faidan village, near here, late last night. Domestic problem is being cited as the reason behind the extreme step. In another incident, a Kishangarh village resident tried to kill himself this morning by jumping into Sukhna Lake.

CFSL employee found dead
Chandigarh, September 27
The body of a Central Forensic Science Laboratory employee was found in Sector 25 Janta Colony, while two residents sustained serious injuries in different road mishaps here today.

Wife sees foul play in cop’s fatal fall
Chandigarh, September 27
The wife of Constable Manmohan Singh, alias Mohni, who died under mysterious circumstances after falling from the top floor of the Police Headquarters earlier this month, today claimed that her husband had received two phone calls from members of the CIA staff minutes before his death on September 3.

JCO jumps to death

A 53-year-old JCO, Sub-Major Dhanwant Singh, reportedly committed suicide by jumping from the second floor of the Command Hospital, Chandimandir, today.
