Protests against noise ban delay immersion of idols
Mumbai, September 18
Protesters sore over the Supreme Court ban on loudspeakers and loud mechanical noises after 10 pm delayed the immersion of idols of Lord Ganesh in Pune last night. Devotees are surrounded by shoals of dead fish as they attempt to push an idol of Lord Ganesh into the Kankaria Lake in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Some 2,000 idols were immersed in the lake. The immersion of the idols combined with recent weather has, according to local meteorologists, brought about a decline in the levels of oxygen in the lake leading to the deaths of the fish.
